I'll be getting a HEL 80 soon and so I'm looking for a backpac that will fit it...
Can't be too pricey, €50-60... But it still has to be sturdy and offer quite a bit of space to store books etc.

I was looking at this one from Targus, seems quite nice. But I don't know if it will fit, I don't know the dimensions of the HEL 80 when using the 9-cell battery (it sticks out).

    http://www.targus.com/uk/product_details.asp?sku=TEB02

    Anyone got any tips?

I have the TEB01 (black) and the hel80 fits perfectly even with the 9-cell battery. This still enough space to store your book etc.

Sounds good... Can you adjust the laptop compartment so it sits tight?

When looking at the specs, theoretically it shouldn't fit:

    Compal HEL 80: 362mm x 265mm x 31.7 ~ 38.9mm

    TEB01: 33 x 28 x 5 cm

I also read the specs, but seems to be good for the HEL80.

it's tight enough as is, not too tight, just enough.
There's only one big compartment with a sleeve attached for the laptop and and the rest of that compartment you can use for power adapter, books, ...
You can tighten this compartment, not the sleeve although there is velcro thingy for securing the laptop.
But there are also a few smaller compartments: front, sides, back.

I'm going to use it for in school and i don't think there will be a problem for putting your books. (Don't mind my bad english)

I personally try to avoid laptop bags/cases made by known computer accessory companies. I know that it essentially eliminates many choices, but I would prefer not to advertise "computer in this bag." I have a Victorinox nylon brief.

Of course, if someone really wants your stuff--they are going to get it one way or another.

I was looking for a backpack for my Hel80 recently too. I decided to go with the Osprey Focus. There is a good review on here on it. Asthetics were sort of important to me, along with durability. Osprey is an outdoor/hiking/mountain climbing backpack type company, so there stuff is going to be durable. There is an Olympic outfitters near me who carries osprey stuff so I went in to take a look. I was a bit suprised by the padding. Some say that it isnt enough and some say it is sufficient. The only thing I had to compare it to was the other 2 laptop backpacks they had there, and a Targus backpack my brother had. I found that the osprey backpack had more padding than all three of the bags, and since targus specializes in laptop backpacks (I think) that it would be more than sufficent. There are plenty of pockets and the bag looks pretty cool to me. It cost about 100$ but I got mine for 85, ordered it from Moosejaw.com and there was a coupon for 15% off and free shipping from the website if purchase was over like $50. The laptop does not fit in there with the battery so you will have to take it out when sliding it in. The top of the hel80 sticks out about an inch or so but there is a little flap that comes down which will cover it. They come in two sizes small/med and med/large I believe. I went with the small/med. I dont think that the med/large fits bigger laptops I think the main pocket is a little bigger though. Anways. PM me if you want that coupon or promo code for moosejaw and are interested. Its a great backpack, go look at the review.

Also keep in mind that not all 15.4" laptop bags/cases will hold all 15.4" laptops. Make sure to check the dimensions of the laptop sleeve/compartment to make sure it will hold your HEL80.

But what are the actual dimensions, when the 9-cell battery is inserted?

    I've bought this backpack:

In dark blue. It fits my laptop perfectly (6-cell battery, 9-cell won't fit).

I have the Hawk backpack here:
    http://powernotebooks.com/product.php?itemId=472

I find it well priced ($49), rather good-looking to me and if advertising a laptop in the bag kinda thing is a problem to you, this should do the trick for that as well.
I also like the fact that it has a full front zipper for the main pocket, makes putting in books much easier.

I have a Dakine Team bag. I was looking for a side loading independent sleeve for a laptop and besides the Ogio Metro (Which was about an inch to small) I couldnt find any other bags with this feature. Wish I could have found a Ogio Metroid though.

But the Dakine is huge, and all their bags have lifetime warranties which rocks. The bag is well padded and fit everything I needed for a 20 hours flight from the US to Thailand. No scratches or dents even when I placed it in the overhead bin.

Even though you have a great bag, if you continue to put it in the overhead bin, instead of under the seat in front of you, it is only a matter of time before you break your LCD.
