    Okay,

I have received my 6130, and can I say I’m DAMN impressed!! WOW, what a sweet system! However I have discovered one problem...

The battery doesn’t run the lappy! And before I go further, I HAVE called support (helpful and friendly IMO)...it seems that the battery is defective. The charging light is on steady when the system is running, the control panel settings recognizes the bat is there and fully charged.

But when I boot up disconnected from the adapter...nothing! If I pull the battery from the lappy and boot, it dosent see the battery (duh).

Call me selfish...but I don’t want to part with my new toy (not to mention I don’t want to spend the time reloading my software again)!

    Should I:
    1- Send it back?
    2- Get a new battery?
    [ :(]

when the cpu is running full load, the laptop won't charge the battery, so make sure cpu usage is low

try booting with AC and the battery, go in the bios, remove AC adapter and let the battery drain (if it doesn't close)

if it does close, remove the battery (and AC adapter), press the power button a few times, put the battery back, plug the AC back, don't power it up and wait about 5 minutes. See if the charging LED goes yellow (green=power on orange=power+charging yellow=charging power off)

    Wipeout...

this is screwy...i'm the BIOS, and I don't see any setting that allows me to turn off that setting. In fact this the most limited BIOS ive seen...oh well, i'll try your other idea.

...and the "remove the battery (and AC adapter), press the power button a few times, put the battery back, plug the AC back, don't power it up and wait about 5 minutes" ...all that did was tweak my display settings...

    I'll try again [B)]

i swear i'm not trying to flame my own post![^]

Well, your suggestion to press the power button a few times has had a effect... the power meter which had showed 100% battery now shows 27%...although the indicator is still solid green. I'm going to leave this alone for a while and see what happens.

I didnt even know there were different colors to the power indicator..its always been solid green...and the battery has never gotten warm!

I had the same issue with my 6130 - a new battery fixed it.

I was not talking about an option in the bios, I was talking about just letting it sit here on the battery, without AC ... in order to drain the battery without crapping windows because it did not shut down properly

but anyway what you have described makes sense, the battery looks bad

    Steelforce...

Thanks for that! Question for ya...did Averatec swap the bad battery for a new one, or did you have to return the whole laptop to the vendor and get a replacement?

and by the way, depending on the store, you should be able to swap only the battery

I work in a staples, and when there's something broke and we know what is it, we usually only exchange this part, and we keep all of our box, and the client keeps its box, so them nobody looses anything, we're sure we've got everything in the box when we send them back for defective stuff

Well, since I didn't buy my machine in the store, I obtained a replacement battery a slightly different way. [ :D]

New battery did it! Thanks to all the offered support.

Now to struggle with the vendor...
