i was thinking about getting a OCZ and then i thought about getting a barebone system and making it myself and i was wondering:
1, where would the best place to get a barebone system from?
2, where would the best place to get parts from?
im guessing ebay, Amazon and places like that
im thinking more about the wireless and bluetooth part of it - as im not sure what they need to be
im thinking about going for 2 x 500gb hard drives as i think i would prefer the space over performance - unless that performance is quite big
How much ram can the OCZ take? i heard 8gb+ is that right?
and i believe that its 667? correct
do they have any good priced 4GB sticks out yet?

if you get the new seagate 7200.4 500GB 7200rpm drives, you can get space, speed and good performance.
You can get barebones from xoticpc, rjtech, and various others, check prices. If I remember rightly you are in the uk? Ask kobalt if they'll sell you a barebones. the bluetooth is probably better to get with the barebones, but the wireless just needs o be a mini pci-e, they're standard modules.
The RAM in the whitebook is 1333MHz DDR3 -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
yeah im in the UK
do Kobalt sell the OCZ?
I just looked and couldnt find anything about them selling the OCZ
as for the drive how much are 7,200 500GB drives?
Oh i forgot that you could add the bluetooth, i think thats what i will do
okay thanx for the info on the RAM, do they sell 4GB sticks yet?
where would the best place to look for the parts, other then ebay and amazon? -
newegg.com has decent prices.. You should be able to pick up 4GB of DDR3 PC8400 So-DIMM for around $100-150 - And if ya want PC10666 you can prolly get it for close to the same. Shop the HDD prices, and I don't personally recommend the Seagates. WD's perform better, and run cooler. I think the max WD you can get right now is the 320GB if ya want 7200RPM and 16MB Cache. But, for $100 you should be able to find 'em. Don't waste the extra loot on 8GB of RAM - too expensive, no real performance advantage. ichime has a reseller list stickied on this forum, check them out to find the nearest place to get the system. You may find one in the country and circumvent import taxes.

ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
is that 4gb one stick?
i will look at newegg, but do they deliver to UK? -
Hm..not sure if they deliver.
And no, thats 2x2GB -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
right okay, i will have a look on their now
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
right i checked, newegg only deliver in USA
so i will have to look somewhere else -
I will find you a vendor in the UK/Europe that sells the DIY.
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
im guessing you work for OCZ
i looked but found nothing, i heard Kobalt sells them but i had a look and saw nothing
if you can find one that would be great -
stickys are great.

the seagate 7200.4 500GB 7200rpm drive is more faster then all WD 7200rpm. search the forum for benchmarks. price per GB is almost the same. -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
ive looked at the sticky and none were from the UK, except AW
but i aint going with them after all the issues about their products
i have looked for 7,200 versions of the 500gb HD but found none
where can i buy them from? -
I think the seagate is the only one that you'll find in 500GB - Forget that. Go WD 320's
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
ive found some WD 500gb drives @ 5,400rpm i think that should be okay
though its annoying that i wont get 500gb of space, what will i get? -
Windows will show 465.66GB, but it will show 500,000,000,000 + few total bytes available, which is what a 500GB drive is.
-
I still suggest the 7200 RPM WDs. Quit bein hard headed
And buy my CPU too
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
i need the space and for the CPU im looking at a qx9300 for $525
-
If you want the 500gb 7200rpm seagate, you can get it here:
http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?prodID=B177991
or here if you want the "g-force protection":
http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?prodID=B177992
I have used the vendor before and found them to be excellent.
Where are you getting a qx9300 for $535? -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
Right thanx whats the g-force protection thing?

-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan

Very nice.
I sold my 7811 and I'm ordering the barebones tonight with the 3870's in Crossfire. I also have a X9100 and 320gig hd to throw in. Got some ram on the way from newegg. -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan

im waiting til the 4870's come out hoping it wont be too long away
that x9100 will be good -
Got the X9100 from ebay from a guy from China, 400 bucks. That sucks about newegg, surprised they don't ship there. I thought about waiting for the 4780's but going without a laptop for a few days has made me desperate
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan

not bad my CPU will be about $525
i hope they release the 4870x2 soon
i cant wait too long im getting itchy feet as it is -
Man that is a good price, where are you getting the QX9300 from? I would love to get that one
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
i know someone that is buying it for me from US and getting it sent to me
-
Cyberport, K&M and Mindfactory
www.cyberport.de
www.k-m.de
www.mindfactory.de
All in Germany, so far, checking for any retailers selling their own version of the whitebook. Those would all sell the DIY. -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
thanx, but none of them are in the UK
-
I realize that, but they do sell outside their respective countries.
Also: http://www.mycizmo.com/
They sell to all of Europe and you can select GBP as your currency. -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
yeah but i would rather buy from within the UK or i might as well buy from US
-
http://www.google.co.uk/products?hl=en&q=OCZ DIY&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wf
Do any of them have it in stock? -
gotta love the weakness of the US Dollar
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
didnt know Play.com had them
shame they cant be customized, the other companies ive never heard of
i would like a 4870x2
i already have the RAM, HD and CPU sorted thanx to someone i know -
It is a lot stronger than a year ago. I was in the UK in Feb/Mar 08. $2 US for every pound, now it is only $1.45
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
yeah the good old days
i was looking at this one:
http://www.evilgaming.co.uk/product.php/ocz_diy_17_bm88xt_blu-ray_with_single_vga_card
i sent them a e-mail to see if i could get the system without the GPU -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
also does the Q9550 work in the OCZ?
-
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
thanx for the info, the best the OCZ can use is the QX9300?
-
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
100% correct.
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
right thanx again for the info
-
any suggestions? -
the ocz comes with the heatsink
-
Ash, good luck on finding the barebones. Hopefully the HD4870 comes out soon as well~ The sooner you get yours, the sooner I get mine~ -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
yeah i have a potential place that sells them in the UK, but they sell with them with the 3870x2 so ive emailed them to see if they will sell without them as i know someone that is willing to buy the parts for me and send them from the US to me. but even if that doesnt go through that same person said that they can get me the system anyway so im hoping to have my new system by the end of March either way, i hope you dont mind waiting a littler longer
-
-
Blasphemy !!
-
Not sure about the Barebone systems but watch the UK pre built sector over the next few weeks and you might be nicely suprised
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
ive seen 1 place in UK that has them but they dont seem to be able to be configured - just the barebone system
-
Welp, ordered my barebones last night and they say Phase 2 right now and the ram already arrived at the house. Getting excited
