i was thinking about getting a OCZ and then i thought about getting a barebone system and making it myself and i was wondering:

1, where would the best place to get a barebone system from?
2, where would the best place to get parts from?

im guessing ebay, Amazon and places like that
im thinking more about the wireless and bluetooth part of it - as im not sure what they need to be

im thinking about going for 2 x 500gb hard drives as i think i would prefer the space over performance - unless that performance is quite big

How much ram can the OCZ take? i heard 8gb+ is that right?
and i believe that its 667? correct
do they have any good priced 4GB sticks out yet?

if you get the new seagate 7200.4 500GB 7200rpm drives, you can get space, speed and good performance.

You can get barebones from xoticpc, rjtech, and various others, check prices. If I remember rightly you are in the uk? Ask kobalt if they'll sell you a barebones. the bluetooth is probably better to get with the barebones, but the wireless just needs o be a mini pci-e, they're standard modules.

The RAM in the whitebook is 1333MHz DDR3

yeah im in the UK :(

    do Kobalt sell the OCZ?
I just looked and couldnt find anything about them selling the OCZ

as for the drive how much are 7,200 500GB drives?

Oh i forgot that you could add the bluetooth, i think thats what i will do

okay thanx for the info on the RAM, do they sell 4GB sticks yet?
where would the best place to look for the parts, other then ebay and amazon?

newegg.com has decent prices.. You should be able to pick up 4GB of DDR3 PC8400 So-DIMM for around $100-150 - And if ya want PC10666 you can prolly get it for close to the same. Shop the HDD prices, and I don't personally recommend the Seagates. WD's perform better, and run cooler. I think the max WD you can get right now is the 320GB if ya want 7200RPM and 16MB Cache. But, for $100 you should be able to find 'em. Don't waste the extra loot on 8GB of RAM - too expensive, no real performance advantage. ichime has a reseller list stickied on this forum, check them out to find the nearest place to get the system. You may find one in the country and circumvent import taxes. :)

you have to look for it?

    stickys are great.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=311358

That's the main feature of most SSD's. performance is quite big.

the seagate 7200.4 500GB 7200rpm drive is more faster then all WD 7200rpm. search the forum for benchmarks. price per GB is almost the same.

Windows will show 465.66GB, but it will show 500,000,000,000 + few total bytes available, which is what a 500GB drive is.

Got the X9100 from ebay from a guy from China, 400 bucks. That sucks about newegg, surprised they don't ship there. I thought about waiting for the 4780's but going without a laptop for a few days has made me desperate :D

    Also: http://www.mycizmo.com/
They sell to all of Europe and you can select GBP as your currency.

Just out of interest, Did the CPU come with a heatsink for mobiles? I was thinking of getting a barebones myself but was confused about how to get the right heatsink/cooling solution for it so that it will fit in the OCZ barebones..

    any suggestions?

CPUs just come as they are. The CPU heatsink should already be in the OCZ barebones. Different case for GPUs though. Need to request for one if you order it without a GPU.

Ash, good luck on finding the barebones. Hopefully the HD4870 comes out soon as well~ The sooner you get yours, the sooner I get mine~ ;)

yeah i have a potential place that sells them in the UK, but they sell with them with the 3870x2 so ive emailed them to see if they will sell without them as i know someone that is willing to buy the parts for me and send them from the US to me. but even if that doesnt go through that same person said that they can get me the system anyway so im hoping to have my new system by the end of March either way, i hope you dont mind waiting a littler longer :)
