For all you HGL30 owners out there, what is your average battery life like?

    What about max?

Are their any particular settings needed to get that to that level?

I am currently weighing the HGL30 and the A8Js, right now the HGL is a bit higher on the scale for the following reasons:

    1. warranty
    2. built to my specs
    3. both the PCMCIA/ExpressSlot
    4. 9-cell battery

It has everything I would need and not to much more (fingerprint scanner)

On the other hand, I am finding that for about $150 more I can get the Asus w/ more than I need (all diff outputs, higher graphics, higher resolution) but i am definately concerned with the 2.5 hr max battery.

You should get a little over 4 hours typing and reading. You should get a little over 3 hours watching a DVD. So all other activities other than gaming will get you somewhere in the middle. Gaming will only be about 2 hours.

You will want to turn your screen brightness down as far as you can while still being comfortably readable for best battery life.

If I really want battery life I underclock my GPU and WFI/Bluetooth off, screen brightness all the way down..4.5 hours. usually about 4 hours comfortably. DVD watching gives me 3-3.5, enough to watch even Lord of the Rings. Intense gaming with my GPU overclocked..2-2.5 hours. Which is very good just so ya know. The poor A8Js will be lucky to get 1.5 hours for gaming.
