I believe the 6 cell battery doesn't work on the WXGA/8600MGS version of the Compal IFL90. So I recommend you not to trade if you have that version of the IFL90

Edit: correct me if i'm wrong, but I think this also applies to the HEL80

I believe I read somewhere (think it was Donald from PowerNotebooks that posted it) that the 9 cell won't work with the WXGA and WXGA+ panels. The problem, if I remember correctly, is the connectors. The type of connector the 9 cell battery uses only matches the WSXGA version and not the other two, and vice versa for the 6 cell.

There was news that xoticpc and powernotebooks will start carrying a 6cell battery that you would be able to buy for the WSXGA+ screen.

The sager2090 come standard with the 9cell battery.
However, there are 6cell batteries out there that fit the IFL90. Swapping the batteries from different IFL90 machines should definately be possible (Donald form Powernotebooks says that they are selling 6cell batteries that will work for the Sager 2090).

However, I am not too sure about swapping batteries between the IFL90 and the Hel80

Here is the issue. You have to get the RIGHT 6 cell battery to work because there are two kinds. There is the CBB and VBI kind and there is the Channel kind. We will have the Channel kind that fits everything, but the CBB and VBI kind only fit CBB and VBI. Confused yet?

Well, the WSXGA+ that all of us have is the Channel kind and the WXGA that Sager has is the Channel kind. However the WXGA and WXGA+ that PowerNotebooks.com and Xoticpc have are the CBB and VBI kind (CBB in our case).

    Now are you confused?

Well, that means that you can't use the 6 cell that you would get with our WXGA or WXGA+ laptops with either the WSXGA+ or the Sager WXGA...they won't work.

That is why PowerNotebooks.com and Xoticpc are bringing in the 6 cell kind that will work with anything...but you can't trade a 9 cell (that will work with anything) for a 6 cell from a WXGA or WXGA+ and have it work in a WSXGA+ or a Sager WXGA.

Now how about some rep points for that bit of confusion :D

If you didn't get it...read it again...and if you still don't get it ask some questions.

That kind of compatibility nonsense almost makes me yearn for the bondage and discipline of single-vendor lockup... almost...

Well, what is really strange is that Intel CBB initiative, upon which VBI is built and supposedly renowned for, is that they use COMMON Building Blocks (hence CBB) where parts like batteries, AC Adapters, and Optical Drives, keyboards and LCD screens can fit any manufacturer's model...so they make a CBB battery that ONLY fits in their scheme while here the Channel makes that battery that fits all.

The idea of the Intel CBB initiative was that customers would be able to get parts easier since one battery for example would work in many models, and dealers would have to stock fewer parts because they would work across the board...but here we have proof that instead dealers have to stock MORE parts, and customers have to be very wary to get exactly the right part...
