Hi, I own a Compal Hel-80, and I was wondering if I could plug-in the battery while the laptop is on? Can I remove the battery while the laptop is on?
Thanks a lot

I assume you mean while the laptop is on A/C power.
Why would you want to do that? -

I'm removing my battery when running on AC power sometimes...no problems so far

What would be the best way to get the most out of your battery in terms of life span... leaving it in all the time, charging it and removing it, and only using it when away from an outlet or what?

Searching the forums for answers will often yield the information you're looking for. Here's a good read with links posted on Powernotebooks' website.

I also never remove the battery. It just seems like too much of a waste of time for me. I know it would prolong the overall life of it somewhat, but I'd rather just buy another one every couple years or so.
I actually have a notebook from 1999 with two batteries and its batteries still have some decent life in them--not a lot of degradation in 7 years. Of course, not a lot of use either since about 2000-2001.
