The BenqS7000 will have a 14 inch flat screen with 200cd/m^2, with any combo/super drive that weighs only 4.3 pounds, or 1.95kg.

The S52 to have a different name when released most likely, will have a 13 inch wide screen, rivaling sony's S series and weighing 1.9kg (4.2lbs) while the S Series currently weighs 4.2lbs.

Asus also will be coming out with a 14inch notebook that weighs 4.4lbs.

(personly, i believe sony won't still be beaten up too badly because even if the other companies were able to come close to their size, they still have their style and design.)

Do you mean the Joybook 7000 , will it be available in the US ?

Have seen only pictures and it oozes quality , if only they would make it convertible to tablet ( for drawing ) it will be preferct and easy to justify the purchase for work - radeon 9700 , yeah right ;-).

BenQ isn't selling any notebooks here right now. Too bad, the Joybook 7000 looks sweet.

    Hey,

Joybook 7000 / 7000N is a very competitive notebook here in Europa. Compared to Sony's S series it has a less noisy fan and a better perfomance. Anyway form factor is quite diffrent since the Joybook sports a 14" (16 x 10 aspect ratio) screen. Even if it is not a XBRITE screen, it is very very bright and clear. The 1280 x 800 resolution is very nice 'cause it is something between 1024 x 768 and 1400 x 1050 which is usually offered by screens in that size. Unsolved problems are a bios-bug that causes the fan to run constantly after wake-up from stand-by-mode and unavailable spare batteries.

The successor is announced for Cebit exhibition in Hannovre / Germany in March. It will be called S72. Also there will be the describes S52 model (yes, the name is right!) Both a equipped with Sonoma chipsets and Pentium-M processors around 1,8 GHZ. Prizes are still unavailable - but compared to S Series (entry modell 1900 Euro) the Joybook 7000 offers already a very competitive price: 1450 Euro.

I've heard that Benq will begin marketing their laptop lineup in the US this year. I think they were showing their laptops at the CES just recently.
