    Hello everybody.
I am looking for a 14'' laptop with an ATI GPU.
I found the Benq S72 () and the asus w3v ( http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=5&l2=26&l3=153&model=496&modelmenu=1) . They look quite similar (both even offer two years of warranty), but the benq laptop is 300 euros (355 USD) cheaper. So my question is:
    How can this be possible?
I am also quite surprised because almost nobody has a benq laptop. Benq makes good cd/dvd writers and tft screens, so why almost nobody has a benq? (as an example, there is no specific Benq forum in notebookreview forums)
What do you think about benq laptops?are they of a good quality?and what about the Benq support?
And what about the S72?What do you think about it?
Which one would you buy: the benq S72 (1100 euros without taxes (1305 USD) in Spain) or the Asus w3v (1450 euros (1720 USD) in Spain)?
Tanks a lot for the help.

I don't think that Benq S72 is similar to any of Asus laptops.

Nevertherless, this is a very good laptop. My girlfried has its previous version Benq Joybook 7000 and she is very happy. I also was able to see on many occasions that it is better than most available on the market, especially given the price around 1300 Euro in Europe.

It seems that Benq laptops are not sold in the US.

Why do you say that is not similar? It is quite similar to Asus W3V. Or are you talking about the general quality of Benq laptops compared to the general quality of Asus laptops?
    Thanks for your answers.

Afaik, Asus is using polycarbon (or how they call it) for the case, while Benq is using Magnesium. Benq also has its own specific way of joining the display, which you don't see on the picture of asus w3v. Besides, from the point of view of marketting I don't see reasons why Asustec would need to rebrand a model from the small company like Benq.

I was talking about similarity in the sense of the specifications (GPU, microprocessor, memory,...), not in the sense of the external looking.

There are many notebooks having similar specs and using the same components, isn't it?

If you are to decide between the two, then I'd vote for Benq with both hands. Btw, isn't this 14" asus model heavier than benq s72?

Asus makes their own brand of laptops, they're the ODM of other companies like Apple and Sony. Also, isn't Benq owned by Acer now? As for the quality and build of the Asus W3V, it's spectacular, it's got carbon-fiber and brushed aluminum lid and touchpad. A major head turner, but I do like the remote on the Benq. :p

I thought Acer spun BenQ off or vice versa.

from what I read.. BenQ was a section of Acer's numerous divisions..but eventually got their own name (but still under Acer).. it's a shame that the US market is missing Acer and Benq's 14" models :(
