With such a huge selection of drivers at laptopvideo2go, I thought I would get into contact with you guys as to what newer drivers are best right now. I technically have a Sager NP2090, and the newest posted drivers from them date back to October. I'm look for better performance, as well as Audiosurf (a game that was recently released that requires newish drivers to play) compatibility.
Any suggestions?

Look here, they have the latest drivers per laptops.

The newest seem to be from October, but from laptopvideo2go you can use newer drivers with more features & updates on mobile video cards.

Some will say the newest is the best, but a piece of wisdom is; "if is not broken don't change it"
Also check with Compal site first, because some drivers are modified by the ODM to make it work with their mobo. For example the driver for nVidia GeForce 8600M GT won't be found at nVidia web site, only at Compal. -
Latest drivers for 8600M GT can be found at laptopvideo2go, I use them. What is exactly you problem OtakuMark?

I always keep them up to date according to the releases on laptopvideo2go. I figure that since it's an 8000 series card, and it's Vista, there are still many changes/bugs to make. For the most stable, go with Compal's official driver.
-
Not just that, nVidia will not have that driver because Compal has modified it to fit on its mobo.

That's not entirely true, laptopvideo2go explains it better, but it seems that when a notebook manufacturer puts out a video driver, they wait for a stable release, put a special note in the installer, and it installs. When using a driver modified from laptopvideo2go, all you do to hack it is replace the .INF file in the installer. From what I can see, the only change is added Device IDs. No modification of the actual driver takes place.
-
That's the only change you "can" see!
I tried to download the latest driver directly from nVidia and I was told what I previously wrote.
I personally stay away from hacking, I cannot afford to lose my laptop while trying things. -
The only file needed to "hack" (such a bad term for this usage) is the .INF file. You can download the file from nVidia, but you need the modified .INF file with the proper Device IDs in it for the installer to run. The worst that could happen is the video would not work, and that is what Safe-mode is for.

My advise use a driver in this case for vista with WHQL.
THe latest driver for the Nvidia 8600M GT is the 167.59 verions which is offered to be installed trough the windows update feature in vista.
OC is still working power settings are fine, no GPU driver recovery in windows after crash or when playing games with dx 10 support, and the important part is no memory issue.
So my advise is to get the 167.59 32/64Bits version for Vista.
Best IFL90 8600M GT Drivers that will play Audiosurf from laptopvideo2go?
