That's a great price.
It does tend to get a little hot, that's due to the aluminum chassis being used as a heatsink.
I really like the keyboard and overall look/feel of this notebook. I think EVGA did a great job.

I hope I like it, look on amazon for amazon warehouse deals pretty good ones some times.

There is not much out there in terms of reviews and such if this thing.

I appreciate that eVGA is trying something different, rather than just slapping their logo onto a stock Clevo chassis. Amazon Warehouse can be really hit and miss. I've gotten some great deals, like a 1 TB SSD for less than $170, but others, like an Android tablet looked like they were handled by a kindergarten class, boxed up, and sent out.

This doesn't have Optimus right?
With the monitor being 60 Hz, is adaptive sync available as an option under the Nvidia control panel?
Any other options? Also what are you temps under load? -
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
I don't actually have one, but I got some hands-on with it (the original one with the GTX 980M).
If it has Nvidia G-Sync on the internal display, it doesn't support Optimus; the two technologies don't work together.
You're probably overthinking this, just use the notebook and enjoy it.

That's not entirely true. My Clevo P670RS has Optimus and a G-Sync screen. There's a setting in the BIOS to switch between Optimus (called MSHybrid) and discrete, which disable the Intel GPU. In order to get G-Sync on the built-in display, you need to be running in discrete mode. In MSHybrid, G-Sync works just fine on a supported external monitor - no need to change modes in the BIOS. -

My statement was specific to the internal display on the notebook. If G-Sync is active, Optimus can't be. A switch in the BIOS may let you use one or the other (which I don't know is even on the EVGA SC17), but both presently cannot be used simultaneously. Again, assuming the internal display only.

No Optimus and no gsync either

Well I got the laptop and the dang screen is broke.. Y
ou can see the purple line or scratch or something
. This thing is HEAVY holy cow was not expecting it to feel just like a tank.

That's pretty unfortunate. Was it not packed correctly or maybe a shipper issue?
Any other thoughts/impressions with it so far? -
It's heavy like a tank. Well built EVEA paid close attention to quality that is for sure. I like the key board, track pad is fine. The screen looks good minus the discoloration. Put the fans on boost mode and they where not as loud as I thought it would be, not load at all, I say. This is the nicest lap top I've ever had in quality terms, and I've had an Alienware r3 which is nice.

Sorry to see that with the screen. Let us know how the service with EVGA goes.

I bought it from Amazon so I have a 30day return option, so I guess I'll do that.

I would see what EVGA says, though, why not give them a call now that you own the product? Their service is supposed to be excellent.

I have been lurking here for a day, I was interested in this laptop but the timing wasn't right, I would like to hear how EVGA handles this, I have bought dozens of products from them and the few issues I had were handled extremely well. I also get sending it back to the vendor, its not something you should have to deal with when spending hard earned money on a laptop.

That's the risk you take buying from Amazon Warehouse. I'd definitely return it for a refund. Sorry that happened to you, especially since you like it so much otherwise.DukeCLR likes this. -
Yea, sometimes you get lucky with them, I can't complain though I got a great deal on laptop.

Well guys EVGA won't fix it say it was physical damage.

Good to know.

Well can't get a replacement so Amazon gave me a steal on a GT73 4k screen 6820hk and a GTX 1080. Only downside is it only has a HDD. No lie $1858 before taxes.

I will say this SC17 is an amazing work of art and attention to detail. Built like a Tank I wish the screen was not like it is or I would still have it. Ahhhh oh well

The GT73 is a beast, I just don't see why it only has an HDD, they all come with some SSD configuration. I tossed an Intel 600p in mine as the boot drive for less then $100.00 US so it's still a good deal assuming there aren't other issues with it.

Actually that configuration didn't come with an SSD:
https://us.msi.com/pdf/nb/GT73VR Titan Pro 4K-225.pdf
It's still a great deal, though! MSI also has an accidental warranty on it, so if the screen (or anything) arrived with damage they may be able to just do the repair for you instead of sending it back to Amazon again. Either way let us know how it turns out when it arrives. -
That is a good deal, I think most people who bought one with a 128 SSD ended up getting another one anyway.
-
I'm sad the conversation on the SC17 pooped out. These are uncommon but check the right boxes for me, so I am interested in user comments.
-
Currently there are two models with GTX 1070, one with G-Sync one without.
sorry to see that, EVGA will cover anything that is a manufacturing issue. Our dead pixel policy will cover your system even if there is only a single stuck or dead pixel, unfortunately we cannot cover physical damage like our tech said. Thanks -
Nope they would not cover it they said it sounded like physical damage from shipping. They suck!!!

From the picture it does look like the screen is damaged, and not a defect. I would guess there was uneven pressure applied to the screen.
Bit the bullet got an SC17
