Hi.
I uninstalled my video card driver in device manager, my computer went to default video. I then tried to install different driver and it said something like "No compatable hardware found". I rebooted to a black screen, even on POST. I can hear windows loading fully but not even a flicker on screen. I've tried booting with external monitor (DVI), pressing Win-P when windows was loaded, tested HDD in desktop, reseated RAM and checked all connections. I can't remove CMOS battery as it is soldered to Mobo, so i shorted it out for 24hrs, still the same!!.
My question is, if i take out my graphics chip from Mobo and reboot will it help me, or just make things worse?.
Thanks in advance for any help

I'd bet your GPU died, sure sounds (looks) like it.
Read thru this post to find out about your options -> http://forum.notebookreview.com/com...our-broken-8600m-gt-graphics-card-i-fl90.html
Baking the current card would be the first thing I'd do, just to check what is broken.
Good luck! -

You have the FL90, right?
If you do not have any video signal during POST, or when loading OS (Windows, Linux), then you have either a faulty GPU or display/inverter.
You could take a torch/flashligt/lamp and direct it at the screen. See something? Then it's the inverter, backlight.
If not, it still is either display or GPU. As you don't have anything on the external signal, I doubt it's the display, so this only leaves the GPU.
As you don't have any output at all, I am very very sure that it is the GPU, more so, as you own a FL90, with a crappy/faulty 8600M GT, and there is a whole forum just for that
So, in conclusion, the GPU is dead
Take it out, bake it, see if it works again. For taking it apart, see my guide.
Good luck! -
Tested display as you suggested, doesn't seem to be the problem.
Could it really be the case that it dies the same time that i uninstalled it? It just seems a bit coincidental to me as it was working fine beforehand.
Also, if i bake it, can you tell me how critical is the temperature? Not sure how accurate my oven is
Thanks. -
Yes, it can. There is a guy here in the forum, who plugged in a self-made USB device, and though he'd crapped his board because afterwards it didn't boot. GPU went dead. I think to remember other stuff like that.
Not sure about the temperature. Some people also put in some tin-solder to check temps - never did that. But check videos, there you can sometimes see that, also, read a few more post here and there. All I know is in this thread ... well, all I know about baking GPUs, that is
Good luck -
I'll maybe get to try it this weekend and let you know how i get on next week.
Thank you. -
Having finally gotten around to bake my card today, I put my laptop together and it worked perfectly
Thank you so much Dr.Colossos, you are a lifesaver!!! -
Awesome! Nice to hear that. You may wanna look at ebay or similar, to get another card, as your's might fail again, sooner or later. While baking works multiple times, it is time consuming.
The first post in the main thread ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/com...our-broken-8600m-gt-graphics-card-i-fl90.html) discusses what card suites your demand best.
