Today I started my laptop, checked the sites I usually check, but some sites were so insanely slow while they never were at first, although some links on the site would load as fast as usual. WLM was signing off and on constantly. Pinged some websites, packet loss was trough the roof. Rebooted my wireless router, didn't help.

Then - in a bright moment - I turned my BT off and everything was working normal again. What's the problem causing this? BT and WiFi on at the same time practically makes it impossible to use the internet. I want to be able to use both normally at the same time.

Can't say I've had this problem. I've been surfing on wireless and transferring content to my cell simultaneously a bunch of times. I'll re-test it and get back to this topic.

Bluetooth does operate on the same frequency as standard wireless, but it isn't kwown to interfere. This is because it changes its channels within the frequency. It does this constantly to avoid any interference happening. Try changing the channel of your router, and see if that works. It may or may not. Hope this helps.

Good suggestion Zero :). Trying it now.

Edit: Changed it, so far BT and WiFi operating simultaneously isn't giving any problems.
Edit 2: Cheered to early, high packet loss still occurs when BT is switched on.

I think it's kind of odd that you're getting interference only now after all this time. I'm assuming you've been running on the same channel this whole time.

But I believe there is something to what Zero said. Certain channels are supposed to be better in situations like this--I can't remember if it's the low-end or high-end though. That may help you out.

Or perhaps a neighbor recently put up a network that is interfering with yours?

Use the lowest channel possible, and make sure you aren't near a microwave or a 2.4ghz cordless phone. Bluetooth operates on the 2.45ghz band (very narrow) which sticks it about the middle of the channels for typical 802.11 wireless. You could possibly have microwaves or cordless phones around that are causing interference. You may also have a neighbor that has a "same" channel system as you, and since wireless is connectionless, your nic could be getting spammed with airtraffic which would slow down the device's ability to take in proper packets, as well as potentially have massive packet drop. Thats pretty rare though, you would be talking dozens of high speed wireless hosts within your broadcast range.

Hmm, now that I think of it: it's only been occurring since I have a new phone (UMTS & BT enabled). Maybe it has something to do with it.

Turn off the phone and test.

Definitely sounds like it could be the culprit.

Could be, but the reason I have the BT in my laptop is to use it with my phone  .

That would be unfortunate if it is the cause. But if you haven't already it would be worth it to test it and find out if it is your problem.

I got a new modem (which has WiFi), and now I don't have the problem anymore.

And I didn't get it because of this issue, if that's what your thinking ;).
