I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop with Dell's BT travel mouse. Occasionally the bluetooth mouse will not function after coming out of sleep mode. Usually the system will wake from sleeping and the BT mouse will not function or show up under the bluetooth hardware devices (I can't add the mouse either). I usually have to restart the system which does not correct the problem, but at least the device appears under bluetooth hardware. I then have to remove the device and reconnect the mouse.

I don't understand why the device doesn't show up after sleep, although it won't allow me to add/remove the device either. The only fix is to reboot and then remove, and add mouse. I've noticed some similar problems with other bluetooth manufacturers but I don't know where the source of my problem is. Is this a common Dell/Vista/bluetooth problem, or does anyone have a solution? thanks.

Welcome to the forum kidbat :)

Doesn't the world famous award winning DELL support have the answer for you? :D

It would be difficult for anyone here to help without knowing what Compal model your laptop is, what other external and internal pointing devices you have installed...but what you are describing is usually caused by a driver conflict. Some other device is probably over riding your BT travel mouse out as you come out of sleep.

I would recommend giving DELL support a call for help...

I just realized I posted this under the wrong subgroup (this is a Dell laptop).

Anyway, I contacted Dell support more than once. They researched the problem internally and on the web and don't know why this is happening. Dell's solution was to not allow the laptop go into sleep/hibernate mode. I told them this is a temporary fix, and doesn't really work when you are only using battery power. I'm surprised they haven't seen this problem before since I mentioned that there are several documented cases of bluetooth problems after laptops "wake up" on the net.

I'm always frustrated when I have to spend hours to diagnose and solve what ends up being a relatively simple problem. I was hoping Dell had the solution, or could at least confirm the problem as system-wide. It appears this is an isolated problem with just my system.

I wouldn't conclude that it is unique to your system, although as I said earlier it could depend on what other devices are waking from sleep mode, and which one is conflicting with your mouse driver.

I would post the same question over in the DELL section of this forum and you may get better help.

May 2008. Purchased an Inspiron 1525. Same BT travel mouse issues. Did you find a solution?

I had the same problem with my Dell BT mouse failing to work most of the time after switching it or the computer back on.

I think the problem was that I had selected the 'no passkey' option in the software. I read somewhere that the mouse had a PIN printed on its bottom. Actually, the writing in the top right hand corner of the back of the mouse is so small that I nearly missed it. It says: Bluetooth PIN: 0000. This number is the passkey that should be entered in the 'Add Bluetooth devices' software.

After entering the passkey, I tested, switching off mouse and computer several times. After restarting, every time the mouse immediately came alive, so it looks like the problem, for me at least, has been solved.

For those of you experiencing problems with your Dell BT Travel Mouse, you need to ensure that you have the correct driver installed for you Wireless 355 Module. I bought the mouse and module separately from Dell and installed them myself. Windows recognized the device just fine and the mouse worked, but then the connectivity problems reared their ugly head and left me scratching mine. Was the Mouse defective? Was Vista the culprit? Was Dell to blame?

First, open Device Manager (use that fantastic new Vista Search function), expand Bluetooth Radios, and right-click --> properties on you 355 Module. Click the Driver tab. If your driver is provided by Microsoft, that's your problem I believe. You need to update it with the latest Broadcom driver.

Here's the deal: when you click "Driver Details" on the driver tab dialog box you will notice there are four files associated with the 355 Module. In my working setup, the bthport.sys and fsquirt.exe files are provided by Microsoft and stand at version 6.0.6000.16386. A third file, BTHUSB.SYS, was updated with Service Pack 1 and stands at version 6.0.6001.18064. The key file in this equation--btusbflt.sys--is provided by Broadcom Corporation. Mine now stands at version 6.2.0.100, is signed, and appears to have resolved all connectivity problems.

So where do you get the Broadcom driver? Not from Broadcom or Dell. Based on some Google findings that led to the Dell forums, the latest driver (that I could find) can be downloaded from www.anycom.com, a German manufacturer of Bluetooth devices. Click 'Support' and search for product "usb-250." This will reveal the ANYCOM USB-250 USB ADAPTER. The second file marked as Version: 6.0.1.6300 is the one you want. Download it to your Desktop, then use a decompression utility like 7-zip to unpack it. Open Device manager, expand "Bluetooth Radios," right-click on the Dell module that suffering error 43, and select "Update Driver Software." Click "Browse my computer for driver software" and browse for the folder you unpacked containing the driver. Make certain you have 'Include subfolders" checked, and Vista will scan the directory recursively, locate the driver, and update your device.

You should now have "Dell Wireless 355 Module with Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR Technology with trace filter" installed properly. The Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator will appear as well. Your Dell BT Travel Mouse should now work flawlessly: you can open Bluetooth Devices and see the mouse connect and disconnect as you turn it on and off, the mouse will work fine when emerging from sleep, etc. I can even wake the machine and then turn on the mouse, and the mouse will connect and work fine in just a few seconds. Magical, just the way I had hoped Bluetooth would work. That certainly was not the case before updating the driver.

Edit: I also added the mouse using the passkey 0000, but I can tell you that alone did not solve the problem for me.
