Does anyone know how I'm supposed to do that on the HEL-80? I can select FDD (flash disk drive?) in the BIOS as a boot device, but it isn't listed in the boot menu (which you can see by pressing F12 when you see the bootscreen). I tried to boot from my USB stick but it didn't work.

    Help!

fdd would be the floppy. you need to have the usb drive set up as "bootable" for it to work. there are linuxey ways to do that easily... i think all the windows mechanisms involve horrible, dark rituals.

Hmm, ok. So you have to use the USB drive as a floppy disk?

The way it tends to work is more as a hard drive. If it's set up to be bootable, it will show up in your boot selection menu.

There are linux programs to do that, but there aren't any windows programs, so any mechanism to make it boot dos involves hackingish stuff like copying bits over from bootable cds or floppies.

Yeah. I'm a "proud" owner of an external floppy drive now, too.

Hewlett Packard has a program that will format your flash drive as a floppy. It also comes with the dos files you need to boot. I used it to flash my bios worked great. I was going to buy a floppy drive then found out about this and saved the money

I downloaded this to use with my 1GB MP3/Thumbdrive and ran the wizard to make the USB read like a Bootable Floppy, but then it asks for an .img file, your quote says that the HP file comes with the dos files you need to boot, where would I find those? Is it in the files I extracted? If so which one is it?
