NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error
Hi all, I've been getting this as of late. 3 or 4 occurrences in the last month or so.
Surely my first reaction was to check the ram, however after using vista's built in memory checker and ubuntu live dvd's memory check both revealed nothing wrong.
Searched around on the internet, and

seems real random, anyone else saw this BSOD on their rig?
I'm running Vista Ultimate 64bits with 2GB ram single stick
v177.83 nvidia drivers.

never had that one one Vista 32

Could the nVidia GPU cause that message?
John -
Yep. That's a familiar BSOD to me.
I've always suspected heating as the cause because exactly that message started to appear during intense gaming.
Memtest never came up with faulty RAM.
Later on, the message would also appear during light usage.
The third NBR thread you linked to, describes exactly imo what the problem is; a combination of dust (bunnies) preventing normal cooling and flaky RAM.
Have you tried cleaning out the fan and/or replacing your RAM? -
What device is reporting the BSOD?
can be seen in lower part of screen at BSOD -
This does seem related to heat however, I've been playing COD4, and always happens after about 20-30mins into the game. -
Though if you're careful then Zepto can't possibly even see that you've opended it up yourself.
Zepto reps themselves here on NBR, have advised to regularly clean the notebook.
Mind you, they never stated to do it yourself but otherwise you'd have to take it to the nearest Zepto shop.
Nothing to go on.
Have it cleaned out, if you keep on gaming I suspect you could shorten the lifetime of your Znote (or parts of it) considerably.
Good luck. -
comforting news all around I guess..
New bsod today, Bad_pool_Caller, anyone know if I can findout some basic logs or information on looking at the dumps it generated when crashing?
I've updated my nvidia driver to 177.92 -
you need microsofts own tool to compile the error files. File itself is somewhere
D) But I think the compilation program has it as default
-
Has there ever been anyone who could pinpoint the exact origin of the BSOD as I linked a screenshot to?
If you know how to do it, you'd be the first in years.
Many years that is. You'd actually be a wizard.
So tell us all how to use this compilation program to interpret the 'NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error' BSOD'. -
http://thebackroomtech.com/2008/01/...debugging-tools-to-analyze-a-crash-dump-bsod/
I guess he means using the windows debugging tools.. I have this nasty habit of right click on recycle bin and run ccleaner which deleted my minidump files (doh) so I guess I'll be gaming this weekend and get that bsod to see what could be causing it. -
Yes I mean the debugger, I just couldnt find the right word for it
It transforms the dump to a readable .txt file, with about 1 million lines, where you can read everything the computer know about the BSOD
Heres what to do:
Download and install windbg http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/default.mspx
(open command prompt (as admin) and run
Code:windbg -y srv*C;\symbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols -i c:\i386 -z [dump file location]
Wait for it to complete
Start searching
(Note: This is basically just a copy of the linked site, but I just made it a bit easyer to follow and if the link expires)
Bsod 6625wd
