Hello, I tried searching for this earlier, but couldn't really find anything besides some posts about keyboard flex. Since I'm fairly certain I may purchase one of these later, may I inquire as to the build quality of the HGL-30? I know Compal is known for good build quality in general, but just wanted to make sure.

    Thanks in advance.

The build Quality is quite excellent. The screen is as solid as you could ever hope for considering the chassy is all plastic. There is no screen ripple when you press on the back.

I have dropped this computer on its front (the side with the wireless switch) straight on to the ice sheet I slipped on. The latch cracked, but there was no damage to the camera, microphone, or the latch mechanism itself at all. I can't think of any higher praise than that.

The keyboard flex, as you probably know from the posts you've read, is easily fixed with double sided tape... though I never bothered to do it since the flex isn't bad at all (i think).

The built in speakers are kind of quiet. You can up the volume on them pretty loud, but not ear splitting volume. If you wanted loud volume on a laptop, you'd be better suited to plug in some external speakers, or use headphones. I don't believe any laptop was meant to be a thundering boombox with incredible sound quality.

The headphone port CAN have some background hiss, though whether you hear it at all seems to be different from laptop to laptop and person to person. There was a gigantic thread on this many months ago, and it was never really nailed down as to wheither it was the result of laptop build quality, a persons hearing acuity, or both.

Bottom line: The screen is excellent, the thing feels solid through and through, the parts in it are first rate given the cost. Definitely the best laptop i've ever owned or used.
