    Hello guys,

I'm about to buy a 6625WD with this configuration

    2.20 GHz Intel® Core™2 Duo T7500 800MHz 4MB
    NVIDIA® Geforce 8600M GT 512MB
    15,4" WSXGA+ 1680x1050
    2GB (2X1024) DDR2 667/PC5300 SODIMM
    Intel® Turbo Memory 1GB
    120GB 7200rpm SATA Harddisk
    SAMSUNG DVD-RW DL
RealTek ALC268 High Defi nition audio quality
    Keyboard Znote Grey UK
    Intel Pro/Wireless 4965AGN
    6 Cell Battery
    Built-in Bluetooth 2.0
    1.3M Pixel webcam

I'm a bit worry about the overheating and stuff.. Can someone enlighten me, or maybe for those who own a 6625WD? Kind of worry if it blast out like my previous Dell...

Are you shure about not getting a penryn? They dont cost allmost anything more and they generate less heat and extends battery lifetime by up to 30 mins from the Merom ones.

About overheating, I have a 6625, and I think it has overheated once, but that was becos I had a beta-BIOS wich set the fan to run on low when I were gaming, and that wasnt so clever lol.

Is there any much differences between (my configuration) and that Penryn?
Sorry.. Still newbie in this kind of stuff.

So that means, beside overheating? I shouldn't worry about other stuff? How about the hardware like the keyboard?

I have a chance to read someone's posted here related to keyboard built and how it boost about 30% increase performance with docking station.

I would love to see replies and some suggestion on this one, really appreciate any help. Thank you very much.

Penryn= Intels latest pocessor architecture. Meron= Intel's previous mobile processor architecture. The T7500 is a meron processor, Have a look at intel's website for the main differences. I think you would be better getting a Penryn processor.

Okay, thanks for the information Andy, would consider that in mind.
Any references on other hardware such as keyboard built? Thanks!

KEYBOARD: Yeah that was me about the docking station and keyboard
setup. Though my keyboard is better now after having it service, it still feels
more responsive when 'docked' to the docking station. If a good keyboard is
a must for you, I'd recommend checking out a 6625wd in person first before
    buying... if at all possible.

Thanks Chris, I'll try in person before I buy. Anyway, can this machine be upgradable? My specification that I will buy is Merom, is it upgradable to Penryn?
    Thank you for the feedback!

If you want to make it upgradeable, get the highest specs on the non upgradeable parts now, i.e. get a laptop with a good graphics card, and then choose the best processor. With RAM, I would say to get 1x2GB and then you can I believe add in a second 2GB stick whenever if that's what you wanna do. Cos if you get 2x1GB you have to buy a completely new set of RAM.

    1. I would go for the Penryn CPU, even the bottom of range T8100, because they run a little cooler.

    2. Ordering a single RAM module only makes sense if you are immediately going to put another module in the second slot. A single module will run slower. See the dual channel RAM guide.

To be frank, this unit is built already, and because the seller has 2 units (of same specification), he wanted to sell it. So the next question is, if I'm going to upgrade it to Penryn, can it be or not?
I would then upgrade the memory by chance on one slot to 2 GB, and remain the same for other slot which I think 3 GB is also sufficient to run Vista (although I'll still use XP for now).

Thanks Cherv1, I believe that 8600 GTM is the highest GPU Zepto had to offer, well I would go for 8800 GTS from Gateway but then the design is too flashy for business use :p

Great explanation, thanks John! I'll consider to get one. (It IS upgradable to Penryn right? Or the 9300? Cause I see the options on the settings).

    Oct 07 went for

    Zepto Znote 6625WD, 1680x1050, NVIDA 8600M GT 512MB, 2.2GHz Intel Duo T7500 800MHz 4MB , 4GB RAM, 160GB Hybrid HD

Build quality and keyboard fine. Did order a TV tuner Zepto sent aerial & cable but forgot to install the card.

Recently installed most recent BIOS. This did improve the performance. I've always used 64Bt Vista Business.

If I were buying now I'd go Penryn
If this only works with Vista it might put me off
Also would go for bigger HD 300G if poss
My Hybrid HD 160G works fine but with Vista is bit small

Depending on your GBPs Go for 2x2G Ram (assuming your planning on using it for 2-3/5 years) 64 Bit is the way to go

The CPU is upgradeable to Penryn (the T8xxx and T9xxx CPUs) since these are options for a new notebook. You may need the latest BIOS to support the Penryn CPUs. The process to change the CPU will be very similar to that described for the 6324W since these models have much in common.

However, you would need to be sure of selling your old CPU for a good price in order to justify the small benefit provided by Penryn. For me, Penryn will wait for the next notebook.

Yeah the Penryns benefits over the merom is so small that its not really worth it to buy a new processor as the laptop processors have really high prices (much higher than desktop processors).

I think you could order it from the zepto site if there isnt a diffrence in the price so that you can choose what you want and what you dont.

I willingly suggest Zepto. It is a very good choice , and yours is a nice configuration. Reards heating issue, well i believe that all high-performance laptops such as the 6625 have heating issues. So I would not worry that much. I personally own a 2.4Ghz dual core 6625 and never had overheating problems.

If you have some extra money i would go for the Penryn (i hope that spelling is correct). Having 45nm transistors does reduce heating, and also allows the transistors to work at lower voltages.

I hope this has been helpful.

    Lawrence

I've had my 6625WD for 3 weeks now.. and i dont have problems with stuttering or overheating.. i haven't found any problems with the keyboard so far.. i did have a few issues since i ordered it with no OS and the start disc the comes witht the machine does not have the drivers for Zepto's own wireless card but i solved that problem by hooking my other comp. to the net and downloaded it to a transportal HD and then just installed it...
i do get some noise from the fans since they seem to run at medium speed all the time.. even when the only thing i'm doing is writing this...

but if i where you i would go for a penryn.. it seems like you avoide some of the issues that non penryn owners have..
