Greetings. I recently attempted to update my CL56 to the current 140AT01 from Bizcom using UltimateBootCD to boot from freedos, then to ntfsdos, then I ran the .bat file.

Everything was looking good until the BIOS reached 100% write. Then the laptop either crashed or attempted to reboot.

Now, when I apply power I get black screen, and a steady loud beeping. I've tried the J1 reset, with no change.

I see from searching on this forum that there is a Crisis Recovery program available but it appears that its for the Pheonix BIOS, as mine has InsydePro I'm assuming it will not work?

Anyone have any ideas? Or maybe suggest who to send it to? Thanks for reading.

Well, for any one else who ends up with this problem, I ended up sending the laptop to Bizcom in California who stated they replaced the motherboard for $90.00. Not sure I believe that as a crisis recovery disk should have fixed it, but at least I do not have to buy a new laptop.

Did you try contacting the manufacturer or other resellers? Doing a search on Google brings up a lot of mention about emergency recover disks, meaning they must exist..

Either way, glad to hear you have been given a solution.

Oh yes, I searched and even tried a few disks for other laptops in hopes of fixing it myself. I think the difficulty in finding one for the CL series is in Compal's use of Insyde as the BIOS developer. As you can see the newer Compals apparently use the much more common Phoenix BIOS manufacture and those Crisis disks are floating about. Both Insyde and Compal ignored my email requests for the recovery disk.
