    Alright, I have three models that I am looking at, they all have 512mg pc2700 ddr333 ram, 60 gig hd's 5400rpm the first is a powerpro M 5:6 1.6 (dothan) ati 9700 128mb, the second is an acer 2012wlmi, 1.5 not dothan i don't know what it is, ati 9700 64mb, and the third is a cyberpower X64 8000 with AMD 64 3200, ati 9700 128mb.

    I know that the X64 will outperform the others, but I would like to know by how much, and i would also like to know if the other two will be up to task in the gaming arena (ie. counter-strike, far cry).

    Thanks in advance,

    Kcmoore

    Not the wrong forum, but with us having no idea what you need the notebook for it's hard to give advice. Can you provide a little background?

    Pentium-M is very capable, although it won't run as fast as the other 3GHz CPU. But for gaming on the go, what usually keep the games running slow are these 3 things.
    1. slow HD, most stock notebook are equipped w/ 4200RPM HD
    2. slow Video Card, you don't have a lot of choice here, and it's irreplacable.
    3. slow Memory. faster notebook memory are available, but it won't come cheap. Not to mention your BIOS may not support it. And in the worst case, your notebook may have one memory module on the mobo, which mean, it's not replacable, and it will slow down the other memory modules. Usually cheap/old notebook are like this.

    BIOS=Basic Input Output System
    It's kinda like a small program that place infront of everything else, but built directly into your computer to recognize all your hardware. You know like when you boot your desktop, and you have like a screen that count the memory, that's the BIOS. The think is, let's say you have a Athlon-XP 2700+ which support DDR333, technically you could put in a DDR400 if your motherboard+BIOS support it, then the spped bump up. But in notebook, you can't very replace the motherboard. Also, you could use DDR333, but w/ better timimg, like CL2 w/o changing motherboard, but notebook usually have proprietary bios, and these stuff, are either work, or don't work. If it doesn't work, then there is nothing you can do to make it work.
