Recently I tried to start Linux liveCDs(first Knoppix, then Backtrack 2), but somehow it didn't work. I am not sure what the problem is, but I think that
the Linux Distributions have a problem with the Intel 945PM Express chipset. So I looked for some drivers on the intel site but they only have drivers for windows.
Can anybody tell me what to do or where to get these drivers for linux?
-
Do you have your bios settings adjusted so that you can boot from cd?
-
I tried Knoppix and backtrack in mine and it works nicely.
-
The Problem is that when I boot Backtrack 2, then it starts up to the login, but when I try to login with the standard password(User:root,Pass:toor)then I get the reply that the login is incorrect. While booting, there are also some errors with the harddisk.
When I try to start Knoppix then it simply hangs up at the point where it is going to start the cardmanager. -
try ubuntu, or suse or even fedora... More widely used distribution tend to have better hardware support out of the box.
-
That's true but to use other OSs won't solve a possible hidden issue, which could also affect Ubuntu.
-
Well can anybody tell me how i should handle this problem?
The point is that first of all I want Backtrack or Knoppix on my notebook and not ubuntu, secondly the problem doesn't vanish if I would install Ubuntu.
Above all I am curious about how to tackle this kind of a problem. -
why don't you try installing in full text mode? and after that blacklist whatever module is causing the problem?
-
after the OS booted i have to login with the standard password but the problem ist that this isn't possible.
-
Do you want to install those or just play around with the live cds?
-
-
When I try to boot Backtrack 2 then it is refusing the password. I got a new CD of Backtrack but I doesn't work either
-
Backtrack? You mean the distro oriented toward network security and stuff? Anyway why don't you try asking on the backtrack forums? Because if the password is declined I don't know what else you can do....
-
Did you setup the password or the system gave you one?
-
He is trying to get into the cd by apparently the default pass doesn't work. Weird.
-
Yep, either he forgot his password or the system is getting lost processing the password.
-
...Who on earth puts a password on a livecd anyway?
-
Hahahahahahahah. I never do that and never have any OS memorize my passwords or ID, never.
