I know on Intel chips they have a throttle back mechanism that if the cpu gets to hot it'll throttle back the clock speed. My question is will it be the same on the Chip in Averatec 6130HS?

Yes, I think I've had mine do that once. It was on my bed and got awfully slow.

I don't think you can harm the chip by overheating it

Actually, you can harm the chip/notebook by overheating your CPU. That's the reason it drops the performance, to reduce the power and therefore reduce heat. If it overheats too long, it'll just shut down, but your system has probably already started to feel the damage from the excess heat. For electronic components, heat=bad, it just shortens the life of the system.

When using the notebook on your bed, make sure the cool air intake and hot air exhaust vents are not blocked. This is one of the main reasons why a notebook overheats.
