I just installed Call of Duty and am very shocked at how smoothly it runs. OK so the single player game gets a little jerky when the action is really intense (like always) but I'm thinking this will get better with more memory. Right now I have 768MB but it's only running at 266MHz. Things should pick up with 1.25GHz of 333, no?

But anyway, it's the multiplayer game I got it for....and it runs VERY nicely. The frame rate is fantastic, so smooth, and I have all the in-game graphics settings set to maximum....

What a difference from the stuttering, jerky performance I got from BF1942. I guess Call of Duty is a newer game though, and seems to have a better 3D engine. And uses DirectX 9.0?

Anyway it's great to see such smooth graphics on my Averatec and to know that it's perfectly capable of playing a 3D game and have it look fantastic.

I played for hours last night and it never crashed once - no problems! Mind you, I think the Targus cooling mat has something to do with that.

Forgot to mention, before I installed this, I did a factory restore and started again. Disabled all the services I don't need (there are many) and closed Norton (along with all its processes) before playing.

I also did a clean install of the ATI Catalyst drivers, which I first modded with Patje's modding tool. They work perfectly, and I get the impression they're a little better than using the Omega drivers which I had on before.

I used "Drive Cleaner Pro" to erase all traces of the original drivers, although I'm not sure how effective this was. Whatever - my graphics performance is great, at least for a laptop this price.

A geforce GO 420 with only 16MB was able to run COD playable svga , its the old quake 3 engine that lets you do it .

It also proved that its not the fancy directx 9 effects but the details that make the graphics , and if you will its not the graphics that make a game but the fun .
