I just recieved my Compal a few weeks ago. I cant disable stanby mode at all. Sometimes it will even randomly go into standby mode while im reading somthing. I checked all the power options to Never and all that jazz and It will still go into stanby mode. Sometimes i cant even get it out of standby mode and I have to hardboot it. Any help or comments would be appreciated Thanks.

I have this exact same problem. And yes I've been in Desktop Properties -> Screensavers Tab -> Power and under power schemes I have everything set to NEVER even on battery and hybernate is not enabled.

Still my machine goes into a random standby all the time and won't recover. I've applied the lid open fix and this did not help at all. I have no idea why I can't disable Standby but it's really really annoying.

And please understanad, it's not like I walked away from the computer for 15 mins. I'm WORKING and don't type or move the mouse for 25 seconds and bam, the thing goes into Standby.

If it recovers (about 50% ;) then it doesn't seem to happen again till I hard boot the computer. The other half of the time I have to hard boot and then I can pretty much BANK that a random drop to Standby is coming.

Any insight into this problem would be great.

    Thanks,

    D

I don't have my system in front of me at the moment, but are there any BIOS options for disabling power savings? I know most desktops have this, but notebooks are more limited here..

Just updating this thread well for the needy. I recently wiped my HEL80, flashed the bios, reinstalled Windows and all of the HEL drivers one at a time. In the process I discovered that the 'Smart Watchdog' software was causing all of my standby problems including random standby, standby while working or moving mouse and no video resume from standby.

Not saying this will fix issues for everyone or for all standby problems but it did work for me and I am now a much happy HELion.

    Peace,

    D

Thank you, Locker420, it was driving me crazy. Of course, disabling Smart Watchdog and its service solved the problem for me.
