Hello guys.
I found this forum after lots of googling for my problem, but I haven't found a solution yet.
I have downloaded an .iso file of Windows 7 from the MSDNAA page. It was a 2.5GB file and I burned it on a dvd, thus having a 3GB DVD. The disc cannot be operated from the Windows XP environment I'm currently using, so I booted it from the bios to make a clean install.
The menu shows up just fine, as it should and I'm clicking on Install Now. But then a message shows up and it says that there is no driver for the CD/DVD Drive Device and that if I can find one manually or have a USB stick or CD with the aforementioned driver, I should insert it at that moment.
Problem is I have no other drivers for it to read. I tried inserting the driver disc for the FL90 but no luck. It lets me browse my files, but I really don't have any file in mind that would help. I hit Rescan, but it's all in vain. I can't proceed any further and I just have to cancel the whole installation and continue in my Windows XP environment.
Since it seems that it's a hardware problem, I don't post this on the Windows 7 forum. I really can't find any driver for a Compal FL90 DVD Drive and it is weird since the optical drive operates fine when working on XP. I hope someone can help with my problem. Thanks in advance.

There is some chatter that could indicate that the disk you burned could be bad, so try another disk and set the burn option to the slowest speeds. You might also want to redownload the ISO, because it could have been an bad download.
Also, there are some guides(google for them) on how to install Windows 7 using a 4GB or higher flash drive, so you could try that way, but if the iso was a corrupt download, then it probably won't install. -
Try using this tool. It's directly from Microsoft.

When I try to run setup.exe from the DVD I've burned, it says that it's not a valid win32 application. -
Yeah you might have downloaded a corrupt iso.

Oh hey guys! I just wanted to write an update. I followed the instructions for the bootable flash USB disk and after a disastrous first attempt, I now managed to install Windows 7 on my laptop.
I'm very happy with the new OS, except that it occasionally throws "not responding" errors on me, but that's ok. It's still Windows after allThanks a lot for the instructions and the very helpful forum!
