Staples at US is now selling the Averatec 4255 (P-M 1.6GHz) for $999 + TAX ($1199 - $100 (instant) - $100 (mail in)). The build quality is really good.

I am waiting for the Averatec 4155 of AMD Turion 64; its list price is about $100 less than the above 4255 model with better 64 bit processor and supposedly better processing speed.

I can't wait to see a full comparison review of these two models : 4255 vs 4155 - the best systems to compare head to head between Pentium M (sonoma) and Turion64. The two models have exactly the same DDR RAM, 80GB HD and built by the same company, the ultimate speed difference can be easily controlled by the CPUs and the chipsets. Also, the two CPUs in 4255 and 4155 are clocked at 1.6GHz.

All i've got for you right now is a little pic of the keyboard...tomorrow night i'll be able to write a slight review (although this is my first laptop so i'm not sure how much I can tell you) I've also got the manual since it's a pdf if anyone wants an e-mail of it...it's got the stats. Best to hit me up on AIM though, laxdguy2k2.

That's really a shame, as I've become quite fond of the magnesium casing of my 3270. Sure, it scuffs easily; but it seems really, really durable, especially compared to the cheap plastic of my Gateway 7422GX.

    --------------------
    Gateway 7422GX: AMD Athlon 64 3400+, 1024MB DDR RAM, 64MB Mobility RADEON 9600

AVERATEC AV3270-EH1: AMD Mobile Sempron 2800+, 512MB DRR RAM, 64MB (shared) S3G Unichrome

So pretty much I'm still on the fence if I'm going to keep this laptop. The screen is nice but ghosts a little, not sure if that should be expected. I recieved one stuck pixel on the LCD, not to badbecause you can only see it on the pure blue background I have. The Brightness is ample and the controls easy. The keyboard is full size i believe but the "Backspace" button is shortened and a "home" key added next to it, this had already annoyed me during papers. Also the "Fn" key is where the "control" button should be on the left hand side but I'm starting to get used to that. No USB ports in the back means that I've got my mouse cable sticking out the back and using the front left USB port makes the use of the 4 in 1 card reader...impossible i guess. The WiFi switch is on the outside which shouldnt be a problem if you ask me. It runs pretty warm when you try to do stuff that is hard drive intense and the area under my right palm definatly gets warmer that I like. Also the bottom of the case gets very warm on your lap. The fan has only been on once (copying MP3s from my other comp) and it was like a jet. The AC adapter pulls out easily and all of the sudden you're on battery power...i guess it's good that you cant tell the diff between batt and A/C, thats the powerstepping at it's best. The included speaker is mono. If anyone has direct questions hit me up on AIM s/n laxdguy2k2.

To let you know. It comes in a choice of jet blue or burgundy. I think most men would opt for the jet blue.
