My charger just died. I had it plugged in in my laptop when all of a sudden my laptop switched to battery. I checked the light on the charger, and it was off. My brother has the same laptop and thus the same charger, and his charger works fine. Tried switching the cable attached to the charger with his charger, didn't help.
**** it. I'm going back to the store where I bought it, but they aren't opened until tuesday and when they order a new charger it probably takes some time before they have it. So I figured, maybe I can buy a universal charger. But before I buy it, which one do you guys recommend and are there any specific things I have to take in account (volts, amperages, watts)?

Sorry, I can't reccomend one, but you should get one that fits in withthe voltage of your old notebook AC Adapter. Normally its around 20 Volts. Also, get one with the same or around current. I think that can depend on the AC Adapter. It will say these figures on it somewhere. Hope this helps.

Ok, thanks
. I will keep that in mind.

You also need to make sure it has the same size connector, of course. I forget what the actual measurements are for ours. There's a short list of outer diameters and inner diameters for these types of connectors, and for this outer diameter, I believe you have 2 available inner diameters, so make sure it fits in and doesn't wiggle around.
If possible, try and find a high efficiency one, like 80%. It would run cooler and cooler running electronics last longer. Getting one more than 90W (like 100-150W, which means it supplies UP to that much, not that it supplies that much) might be beneficial as well. -
Is this one good? It's 120W, 48,50 and the shop where I can get it has it in stock. They had a universal adapter for 30 too, but it has a voltage switch on it. I'm afraid it might accidentally be set on the wrong voltage, and then *poof*. So I'd rather not have one like that. -
That one is good. FSP group makes some of the best power supplies for decent prices. The voltage range is pretty narrow (-.5v to +.95v of what we want), so your laptop won't be in any serious danger at any setting.

I understand your situation and realize your rush to replace the A/C adapter. Keep in mind though, that the adapter the HEL80 came with is designed for this system. I would advise you stick with the same unit, as any minute deviations may or may not cause problems (probably not, but why risk a $2K notebook?).
Did you have your A/C adapter plugged into a line conditioner or surge protector? If not, I suggest you get one for your next one.
If you did, though, your warranty should definitely entitle you to a new unit, free of charge. The reseller should have one in stock to swap out for you--unless they don't assemble the units themselves. -
A power adaptor is a power adaptor. The FSP one can supply all the power he will need, is likely more efficient, puts out the voltage he needs, and is what I'd consider a better brand.
