Since the Clevo 9860 or 9880 is about the same price at SN, HS and AW....

    Eurocom $5030
    Voodoo $4920
    Boxx $4500
(The above are too expensive to be considered)

Hypersonic $3900 (0 dead pixel guarantee standard)
    Sager Notebook $3740
    Alienware $3610
    Others?

All above except noted do NOT have 0 dead pixel guarantee.

    Who has the best service?

I have an AW and love it. I would recommend them to anyone (don't worry about the crap people post here.)

Not many companies have a 0 dead pixel policy because the LCD is one of the most expensive parts of your laptop. AW's isn't too bad. 1 dead pixel in the center of the screen or 2 outside of the center and you can have the screen replaced.

AW does have great service despite what people say here. Even on the Voodoo forums people complain about problems with CS.

Hmm... Interesting, I configured the same setup from www.discountlaptops.com, and the total come out to be $3385. This is with the Go1400 and a dual-layer DVDRW -- everything else the same as your spec. And this is with the new Sager NP9880-V1 -- which can actually take a 600-series CPU (64bit). Incidentally www.discountlaptops.com isn't the cheapest place to get the Clevo -- if you don't mind some elbow grease you can get it for probably a few hundred bucks cheaper... When I get home I'll try to look up a few more pages for you.

An observation on your specs thou -- I would seriously consider NOT getting raid0. It offers virtually NO performance increase, yet it will DRMATICALLY raise your chance of data loss. Coupled with the confines of a laptop = a disaster waiting to happen! Raid 0 in ANYTHING is not a good idea, period.

    cheers,

    yass

I would greatly appreciate it if you could find that lower price Sager/Cleco dealer.

As for the Raid 0, yeah, I'll ditch it...but I think I'll wait till the new 100GB Hitachi 7200 rpm HD's are available from Sager.

Right now at work I have desktop with a 15K RPM SCSI drive and with the large files I have to deal with, that is bordering on painfully slow. I have to give up that desktop up to a coworker. So I have to find pretty much the fastest notebook that is available. I sure wish dual core cpu's were available right now for notebooks...but I guess, who doesn't!

I would have oredered from Boxx because of their experience in building workstations. Problem is they offer only a one year warranty...period.

When will the 100GB Hitachi 7200 rpm HD's be available in any of the Clevo units? I see Dell started selling them this week in their Inspiron and mobile workstation lines.

Will order from Hypersonic. Like the Eurocom lineup but $1,000 more expensive than Hypersonic and Boxx.

I'm torn between the 9880 and a custom SFF (Small Form Factor) PC.

Here's the machine in my wish list on NewEgg for about $1,500 without monitor and no graphics card:
    -AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Venice 1GHz FSB Socket 939
    -2 x CORSAIR XMS 1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered
    -2 x Western Digital Raptor WD740GD 73GB 10,000 RPM Serial ATA150 (Raid 0)
    -Shuttle SN25P Socket 939 AMD Athlon 64 FX/Athlon 64/Sempron
-Shuttle PF60 XPC Carrying Case - Retail
    Subtotal: $1,456.50

I didn't go for the AMD 4000 since in a couple months I want to upgrade to a Dual Core AMD when they become available.

Sager Plusses: Powerful, more expensive. More portable.
SSF Plusses: More powerful, less expensive. Less portable. Upgradable to Dual Core.

I am one of the ones who came on this forum on purpose to vent my dissatisfaction with AW's support.
If all what we say is crap, how do you explain the thread "Do you regret your purchase? If so, why?" in AW's own password-protected "Mobile Discussion" forum?

I hate to blow our own horn, but PowerNotebooks.com has been a Sager dealer for over 6 years, and currently has 900 ratings at ResellerRatings.com.

It is hard to beat either our prices, or our Customer Service.
