    Hi Everyone,

I am confused about the Compal 90/91 and its specifications...

    1) There are three 15.4" notebooks that only differ on the choice of video card? (1) Intel GMA x3100 Graphics; (2) Geforce Go 8600M, 256MB VRAM; (3) GeForce Go 8600M, 512MB VRAM?

    2) The Intel GMA x3100 unit has a glossy screen, but the others have matte ones?

    3) The maximum video resolution of these units is as follows: (1) Intel GMA x3100 unit has WXGA (1280x800); (2) GeForce Go 8600M, 256MB VRAM has WXGA+ (1440x900); (3) GeForce Go 8600M, 512MB VRAM has WSXGA+ (1680x1050)?

    4) In order to get WSXGA+, does the screen need to be replace?

    5) Has anyone seen a parts list for assessories, etc?

Thanks in advance! I hope that these questions will help others, too!

    Mike

This applies to the US Compal IFL90/91

    1) The IFL91 will have the X3100 and the IFL90 will have the 256mb and 512mb 8600m GT.

2)I think the IFL91 will only have the glossy WXGA. the IFL90 will have a WXGA(glossy), WXGA+(glossy), and WSXGA+(Matte for now but later shipments will be glossy)

    2)Yep.

    4)probably, ask a reseller

5)It will probably be basic stuff like Power adapter, battery, bluetooth, tv tuner

You must be aware that there is FL90 and IFL90 and FL91 and IFL91 respectively. These are VBI and non-VBI versions.

Both offer different range of configurations, for example I don't think it's possible to find a VBI version with WSXGA+, but WXGA+ might be possible in some countries.

Also, there is GF8600 with WXGA only, afaik.

Every of those version also has a subversion, in the case of VBI FL90 I already know of version tag ending with 1 (non-tpm platform) and 2 (tpm-enabled platform). The version 2 has some certain improvements too that I can think of, mainly it has a Robson MINIPCI-E slot afaik, but that is not yet confirmed by me. That would mean it'd be compatible with the tv-tuner installation, a big improvement regarding VBI compals (EL80, the VBI HEL80, didn't/doesn't simply have an extra MINIPCI-E slot ;)).

If you're in the US, don't bother with half of what I wrote tho unless for pure (dis)information, VBI is not marketted there at all afaik.
