    Hi

I have a compal FL92, with 4mg RAM and Vista and I'm planing to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate 32bits.
I would like to hear from those who had Seven (any version) already installed, the pros and cons and, where to find the drivers for the new SO :) .

    Thanks in advance ;)
    Regards

    Hey CMG,

First off I am pretty sure you have 4 GB of RAM not MB. Secondly if you are only upgrading to 32 bit... then why have 4GB of RAM... why not do 64 bit? Third why Ultimate? Really the only cool thing it provides is well... languages and some encryption which truecrypt does better :)

I went with Pro because it was cheaper and provided all the networking features that Home didn't. Just a thought.

As for drivers and such... I don't own an FL92 so I can't say, but on my JHL90 its been running amazing :) An improvement over XP and Vista.

PM if you have any questions :)

    Hi splashpants

You are right. I Have 4Gb and not Mb

The reason to go to Ultimate 32bit? Easy: Someone offers me the DVD with this OS :D

As I said, my main concern is to find the right drivers for it. And it seems not easy

    Thanks

As you can see, I have JFL92 as well. Basically all drivers that are for Vista, works in W7. What I'm using is this:

    Chipset: Intel Download
    Audio: Realtek web site
Video: nvidia.com - although I suggest you go to lv2go.com and find another driver as the one currently offered from nvidia has problem with lowering clocks on graphic card

All other drivers you can install from Vista... Which drivers are you having problem finding?

    I'm using Home Premium.

Also, there are ways that you can utilize that remaining 0.75GB of memory that 32bit OS will not see/use. Read this if you want...

Well it's quite simple, with 32bit software (which is 90% of it) your 4gb turns out to be just 2. And I think 2GB is less then 3GB in 32bit edition. Simple math. :)
So 64bit start to pay off only with 6GB+ of RAM.

If you don't mind me saying... you clearly don't use a 64 bit operating system. You don't need 6GB of RAM for it to 'pay off'. I am using 4GB and it works lots nicer than when I ran 32 :)

And as for software yes right now it holds most of the market. However 64 bit is the future (the near future) and if you actually spend time to look there is tons of 64 bit software floating around.

    Hi grbac

    Thanks for your help.
My FL92 have an Intel Core2 Duo, T7500 and I don't find, on Intel site the right chipset for this processor.
Can you be so kind to point me to the right download? ;)

    Thanks to all

I don't think you understand CMG, for the CPU you only need the chipset driver there is no such thing as a CPU driver (not for intel anyway...)

    Hi splashpants

I don't find because I didn't know that chipset is Intel PM965. I was looking for something like T7500 (CPU)
    Thanks

? Ok I am sorry but I am not understanding here... You were looking for something like T7500 which I know is a mobile CPU from Intel... but I don't understand what exactly you are looking for...

In your laptop you have an Intel PM965 chipset. I know that for sure! Because the FL92 was only ever sold with a PM965 chipset.

So what is this about finding T7500??

What matters is that he found it and realized why he couldn't find it in the first place. There is no need for further discussion. IMO
