    Hello!

I've looked through a bunch of threads, but I'm having trouble figuring out where to "rank" the build quality of the Compal machines. Just for reference, I have a Dell Latitude now and have had a Powerbook and a Thinkpad in the past. Thanks in advance :)

It's really good. The only problem that I have with it is the keyboard flex. But I rarely use the keyboard because I have an external. When do use it, it is noticable but not that distracting. Great notebook though.

Thanks! I'm deciding between this and something like a Dell D620 or Hp nx6325. I really like the idea of not supporting one of the "big companies" but I use my computer a lot and bring it with me around a lot, so I want to make sure it will last. But then I'm also cheap. Hee

hey we're all cheap okay don't feel bad..haha..compals are good..but from what i remember you don't play games so you'd still be paying extra for a dedicated gpu you won't use..now that i work (finally) i really believe you need at least a 15" standard or 15.4 W to be able to work effectively..my w3j at home is good for surfing and gaming/music but i'd never use it for larger documents or papers..i have my 19" desktop lcd for that..my recommendations for work comps still stand at V6Va for the awesome screen (almost bought one but waited out for the x1600 in the w3j), V6J (core duo revision..loses IPS and x700 for 7400) or a t60

Thanks! I know what you mean about the 15". I can do okay with 14", but smaller than that is tough for documents and stuff, even if it is cooler looking :). The ones you indicated are kind of expensive though. I spend so much time on my computer that maybe I should suck it up and pay more :)

lol to be honest i almost ordered a dell m140 for 700 way back in the beginning when i was thinking about being cheap..then my brother (the computer guy in the family) reminded me that i'd be staring at it for the next 5 years (hopefully). Thats when i realized that spending a little more now will have a big impact later on..especially if it means it will last longer...and besides laptops aren't the most expensive things on the budget..there's car payments or mortgage which make the difference between a budget 1k laptop to a 2k quality laptop seem minute when you compare the differences in quality you get for it

So true. I was trying to get a feel for where the HP and Dell business lines fit in because those are closer to the 1k line than the 2k. I always have had champagne tastes on a beer budget. Hehe

In that case, the HGL30 is a great choice.
