Anyone else have this problem? Mine is coming from the right palm side between the plastic on the top meets the bottom. Mine isn't a small squeak either, if I'm just resting my palm on it and using the touchpad, it squeaks whenever I move my palm around. But if I use my fingers and hold the notebook like a burger at the same place and squeeze up and down, it is really loud. The plastic is really rubbing on each other hard. I'm thinking of bringing this back to the store, but I'm not sure if they will do anything. Anyone else have this problem? Should I bring it back or am I going to have to live with it? Opinions please. Thanks.

I bought it about a month ago, do you think I have grounds to complain about this for an exchange or RMA or something?

I would.. mines as solid as a brick.. lol.. no squeaks, squawks or other noises. No dead pixels either :) Just the normal sounds of the hard drive, dvd drive... which when it spins up is quite loud, but can live with that.

    Just my 2 cents :)

With normal usage, my HEL80 does not make any noises like that. If I put extra pressure with a finger or two in some spots, however, there can be some slight creaking--but that's to be expected with just about anything made of plastic. It's possible your chassis was not assembled properly. If it's a big problem to you, I'd have it looked at.

I can make mine make the noise, on the right side like you said, but under normal usage mine doesn't make that noise. I guess every chassis can't be perfect.

I do have it on both palm rests, and sometimes i do rest my hands down rather roughly and i hear it... not really that big of a deal i suppose. i personally am not bothering to RMA over this.

Well mine is really bad and I decided to bring it back to Milestone for them to check out. I demostrated the problem and he acknowledge the bad squeaking noise. I called back today after it was this them for a few days and they tell me that Compal came to look at it and because my notebook has a very slight scratch on the palm rest that this is physical damage and they are not willing to do anything or take it back. Now this was an extreme shock because this scratch was there the first week I had it and they know it because they complained about it the first time when I had problems with the touchpad. I don't remember how I got the scratch but I noticed it when they brought it up when I left it with them the first time but its bound to have scratches so I didn't complain if they did it. But now I'm pretty pissed that they leave their customer hanging here. They are going to call Compal again tomorrow and talk to the boss tomorrow aswell so they can still make it right but after hearing physical damage that just ruins my day.

Can't believe it, they told me to pick it up as is because of physical damage and that's it. Its physical damage but the inside is still fully covered, isn't that very contradicting? They won't give me Compal's phone number that they said looked at the notebook. I don't even think it is Compal but rather a distributor because they can't resell it because of a scratch. I don't even think they did anything today either but just let me wait and tell me the same thing later to seem like they tried. Danny is not available to talk to and won't be back til March they say.

So I can't contact Compal, Milestone won't accept it. It's just Milestone's word that Compal says physical damage. I feel that if the store won't deal with the service and is saying Compal's tech is rejecting it I should be able to deal directly with Compal then because the store is not involved. But if the store is refusing to let me contact Compal then they obviously should be handling the service because they are handling the warranty and they are obvisouly not servicing their product.

The funny thing is, all I hear from them is nothing they can do because of physical damage yet they can't prove any physical damage because there is not signs of it being dropped, dented body or anything besides a SCRATCH. Man, I have scratches all over my car and they still serviced. Funny they say I've had it for a month so they don't know if I physically damaged it or not so that's why they are calling it physical damage because they can't prove anything.

I'm sure Danny can do something but these guys are just giving me the runaround.

here is a video of the problem, you guys decide if I'm crazy. the video sound is lagging, the right side doesn't squeak as shown in the video but you can see when I move my hand over that it still squeaks as evidence of the lag.

I guess if I had to deal with that noise constantly it would drive me mad. I'm suprised they tried to weasel out of fixing it with a weak excuse like that...

I have a scratch like that on mine that I caused during the first days of ownership. It was caused by my watch band so I've just stopped wearing my watch while using it.. no biggie..

My HEL80 definitely doesn't make that much noise. I'm still thinking that it wasn't assembled properly. You had this sound problem from the start, right?

my left hand side of the wrist rest makes the noise, but I didn't notice until the guy said something and I started trying to find it :p Guess I just don't lean into my notebook enough to get the noise

I didn't have or noticed this problem when I first got it. It started to happen about 3 weeks after and kept getting worse. Mind you the video is an extreme situation, I'm not pressing on the case like that constantly but you get the picture when I'm using the keyboard or mouse and I'm moving my wrist around it squeaks here and there and in a quiet room it annoys the hell out of me.

It probably wasn't assembled the best probably and the store should be responsible for it but they are blaming Compal declaring it physical damage yet they won't let me contact that Compal person. In my view, if you don't let your customer contact the manufacturer and use them to blame still for not taking care of it, the problem is between me and the store and I don't really care what Compal says because for all I know they may have done nothing at all. Don't get me wrong, I understand the store doesn't have a responsiblity for warranty after the return period is over and usually the customer goes back to the manufacturer, but in this case they won't let me do that so I should be putting the blame on them. Isn't that correct?

Now that you mention it, the left side does have a little more of that than the right side on mine as well. But still nowhere near what the video shows (even though that's an extreme example).

Are you past your return period?

I don't know exactly what the return period is but I'm sure I'm out of it since I've had it for about 1.5 months now.

i'm hesitant to even consider from buying from milestone now. that scratch, as best as i and everybody else can tell, has nothing to do with your squeaking problem. you know, your casing could be warped from manufacturing, and i would have to assume that the more you use your laptop, the more heat will be exposed to it, and the more it will SQUEAK from the exposure.

They have had a few quirks on here that would atleast make me very cautious before picking them, but on the same note I've heard of many good experiences from their customers. Choosing to buy stuff sounds fairly tuff there in Canada since your choices are far more limited. Good Luck.
