    Hey everyone.

I've had a Compal HEL80 for about 14 months or so.

I have an Intel Core2 CPU T7200 @ 2.00GHz, 2 GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GO 7600. I use a Logitech G5 Laser mouse.

Recently, whenever I'm using a mouse (as opposed to the touchpad), my pointer will suddenly become unable to click on anything. None of the buttons respond, but I can still move the cursor around. If I ctrl-alt-del, the buttons will start working again, however from that point on I lose the drag and drop functionality for files until I restart the computer. This means that I can't move files around with the mouse - if I click and drag a file, it will move its image, but when I release the mouse the folder goes back to where it was before.

As far as I know this never happens when I use the touchpad from the start.

It started occurring fairly recently, about a month ago. Last week I reformatted (for other reasons), but even after the reformat the same problem has come back. Does anyone know of any way to fix this problem?

    Thanks!

Have you tried to reload the mouse driver?

Yah, I tried installing/removing/reloading the Logitech SetPoint software, to no avail.

After messing around a lot with my mouse, though, I'm pretty sure it's just the mouse messing up. It looks like scroll wheel is getting stuck down, and when the scroll wheel is clicked in you can still drag files but not drop them anywhere, which is what's happening to me. Interesting. Now, every time the problem occurs if I just pull the scroll wheel around then it will stop.

Then, just change the mouse, install a cat instead, they are more solid :)
