Im using this as a reference until an owner can tell me otherwise
http://www.intel.com/reseller/mobile/vbi/matrix.htm
As far as I can tell the a8jm uses the first screen listed for the hgl 30. I think its safe to assume that these two machines use the exact same screen.
Im not sure of any dealer that sells both of these machines. I mean and thats only logical as well seeing as they are so similar.
So Im not really sure who all could have seen them both to compare.

since you have a 2.0ghz proc you will have 12x..and i'd probably set that as 1.112
to ensure stability you can test that with programs like prime95..or just simple gaming..since that tends to stress procs. the most...my settings are stable for source as well as quake4...the limit to undervolting varies from proc to proc. so make sure to test it out first -

Full Review coming very soon i should have it sent off to the admin by the end of the day today....
-
Looking forward to reading it.
-
haha...me too
its going down to the wire, in terms of laptop purchasing times i mean...
looking forward to your review -
I just ordered an HGL30, so I am looking forward to your review as well.
-
Yummm review! Awesome, dude.
After having ruled out Sony SZ (pricey), Asus W7J (bad RAM), and W3J (hot), now for me it's between the HGL30 and the PortableOne UX (very different machines, of course). Your review will be quite important.
So no pressure.Good luck!
C. -
Asus W3J is NOT hot. It runs VERY cool. The machine itself is very cool. Only the air that blows out of the vent is hot.

just sent it off to the admin i hope everyone enjoys i did 3dmark 05/06 along with superpi and hd tune. I hope that those benchmarks will give you a good idea of this computer along with my review and if you have any questions after the review is out i will be glad to answer them
-
Awesome, murawski!
AbN, I'm just reporting what I heard from multiple sources. I need to be able to keep the laptop on my *lap* for extensive periods of time, and the W3J isn't rated among the coolest-running. If you can dispel this, I'll be more than happy to hear your side. But we're off-topic here.
C. -
the w3j sadly like the macbook/pro is as hot as it looks..i definitely don't use it on my lap for long periods of time..i bought a ilap for that..concerning the temps on the hgl30..remember that it is clocked lower than the a8jm..and overclocking is needed to match performance with it..im also very interested in seeing his review

-
It shouldn't be toooooo hard to find, say, 10-15 people living in the same State who could supply like $400 each and buy the three notebooks, then get together and do the thing................ okay, it would be hard.
ARGH! The W3J would be sooooo perfect otherwise... *shakes head*

how long does it take for the review to be accepted/posted?

Where for art thou review?
-
-
They edit it, add all the 3DMark comparrisons, etc.
when they said "next week" they said "next week" and not "Sunday/Monday" for a reason. It might be out by Wednesday, but don't complain just yet -
2. These are also paid reviews, thus the admins will have to secure the payment (whichever the reviewer chooses) so that the reviewer receives it.
3. The admins have have other reviews and articles to deal with, as well as having other jobs. -
"other jobs" haha don't you mean their real jobs aka 9-5 types...notebookreview.com is a secondary job jus remember that ppl
-
ron helped me out with my order too. I just hope I get my compal hgl30 by the end of the week.

I thought that i would just throw this out there... Playing need for speed underground most wanted at max settings for 2 hours strait (it is very addicting) i decided to check my computers temp. Both cores were at 48 degrees c which i think is amazing seeing as this is a 14 inch screen and i was pushing the computer for that amount of time.
So anyone with heat issues need not to worry -
I just ordered mine yesterday morning from powernotebooks. I found the perfect laptop for my price range. I hope it gets here by monday.
-
Sounds like an awesome machine. Those benchmarks for 06 are really awesome. That is the highest i've seen for a 14.1" lappy. Your review seems like your overall impressed thus far. I'm rather impressed with this machine. And I guess the teal spices it up a little bit
As for the topic on W3J, its a warm machine, just like i'm suspecting this one to be, but in no means is it hot. I had it on my lap for about 3 hours and 40 minutes(testing the battery life, which is what it ended up being) and I had no problem with it at all. Not to mention it was on bare skin cause I was still lazying around in my boxers at that time of day. The heat on the side is also not a problem unless you still your mouse right next to it. Which then, your hand might get warm, but still it wouldn't be uncomfortable. This is just from experience, sorry for going off topic.
It also seems like 14.1" laptops are kicking ass right now. There are 3 which are just totally gaming beasts and amazing laptops(as I'm sure there are other great ones as well). Lets hear it for W3J, A8Jm and HGL30.
Edit: Well I just realized that the 06 score was a typo, but they are still both good scores. I'm sure they will clock well in gaming. -
hmm i think better benchmarks would be in average fps for popular demanding fps games a la doom3/source..i believe those are more useful than a couple hundred points in 3dmark05/06..for example..although a 7600 benches lower than the x1600..it should kill it in doom3 fps
-
.
Yes, let's hear it for all three wonderful systems! -
I believe the 3DMark06 score in the HGL-30 review is an error. While the table says 3106, the screen shot picture shows a score of 1872. I'm going to trust the screenshot unless someone tells me otherwise. Not that these numbers are the end-all, be-all, but I thought the discrepancy should not go unnoticed.

Talked to Donald and his service was great =) -
i've been playing with mine all afternoon since it arrived today. you guys won't regret it
oh and anyone know what this infineon security platform program is for? -
This is my first post at NBR, but I have been reading what everyone has to say for a couple of months now. My PowerPro 8:14 showed up today also. I was stuck at the office until 5:00 (well I may have cut out a few minutes early today) so I just finished with the windows install. My configuration is almost identical to HchorionicGT's in the post above, except I don't have the DVD burner. Haven't had time to install any programs but firefox yet. But now I'm sitting on the back patio typing this instead of being tied to the desk inside. That alone is a big improvement.
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone whose posts I have read over the last few months. Who knows, if I hadn't found NBR I might have ended up with a Dell. And a special thank you to Donald for the great customer service.
You probably won't see me post much, but I'll be hanging around following the Compal forum.

Welcome to the freedom of laptop computing -
I bought mine on Friday! I went with XoticPC because they had a good price, friendly people, and took American Express (get 5% off all purchases and frequent flyer miles so I kind of have to use it).
The guy (Justin) at Xotic has been extremly helpfull and bends over backwards to make sure everything is just right, the other reccomended reseller I talked to here (Donald) was great and very helpfull and knowledgable too! But had to use the Amex card :V You realy couldn't go wrong with either of the companys as far as CS goes, no sales pressure at all just information and seem like they realy want to help you. I've dealt w/ Dell and Alienware and there is no comparison. If your 'iffy' about going with a reseller vs a big company don't be, give them call and see for yourself.

for anyone worried about gaming i am using the stock nvidia settings and playing F.E.A.R. without a problem on the settings that the computer decided for me. I think that the game looks absolutly stunning althought there is a little pixelation on the body of the people nothing big and i think that the game is running at descently high settings probably around a "medium" to "medium-high" setting

I don't know why, but I have some problems with Counter-strike 1.6 (not Source)! I've turned off vertical sync and inserted all the console commands (such as cmdrate, updaterate, rate, ect..), but have a few problems randomly while playing.
While I am playing, the game would randomly skip frames sometimes (kind of freeze up for a few frames). This happens most often after I get killed from a headshot, or my teammates are using commands ("Need Backup!", "GoGoGo!", ect...). Or when there is a vote map change that pops up. Please, help me out. -
