Discountlaptops estimated they'd get it around 2nd or 3rd week of June. I think Powernotebooks also said sometime soon. In either case, it'd depend on how fast the EFL 30 (the last 14") is removed from stock

rumor has it that the N.American version will sport a silver lid, instead of that turqoise one. I wonder if Donald can verify this :D

Meh maybe its not a good picture but i dont really like the grey look. i woulda preferered the turqoise lid, although what i would really like is HGL31's black lid on the HGL30. Since its VBI the screen should be exchangable, do you think there's anyway i can get a reseller to put a black lid on the HGL30 for free or very small price?

Good, the Turquoise reminded me an awful lot of a Toshiba... err, maybe they build Toshiba's newer models, I donno. I think it looks good.

Hey this is off topic Goren. But do you know of anything smaller than a 14.1, with even a small GPU coming from these manufacturers? ...Besides the W7.

check this section for an Arima that is 12" with an Nvidia Go 7300 but only 32mb dedicated, the rest using from the main RAM. That's the only whitebook I know that is both Core Duo, under 14" and has a dedicated gpu.

yeah price is everything here! if it goes too high, one might be more tempted to purchase the Portable One MX (A8jm) instead. I'm hoping it'll be the same price as the HEL80 :D

I've already asked Donald (Powernotebooks) about it and he has no idea. Perhaps some one could ask Chembook? :)

I emailed Micro Express (another Compal vendor) about the price, and they said they expect it to be the exact same price as the HEL 80! :D

should this hold true, we got a machine that is significantly cheaper than the A8jm, and could probably be configured for less than $1200, perhaps as low as $1100 if you did your own hardware installation.

found another site that has pics of it, you can see the 9-cell here which extends in the back.. rather than downward like some other laptops.

Clicking the arrows will reveal pics of various angles.. interestingly the color scheme on here is totally different than other ones I've seen. This one being a silver lid with silver and black interior. I'm guessing this might be the VBI version?

each time I contact different resellers, the ETA of the HGL30 keeps going farther and farther :( the latest news is end of July. Although this would make sense. I didn't see the EFL30 come out until August of last year, while its 15.4" counter part was well available in May

here's an excerpt from an email i received earlier today from chembook regarding the hgl30:

There is a little delay on the shipment.
Suppose to get it on Monday(6/19)
Now we are looking at one week later.

Hey rice...welcome to the Forum :)

That is actually great news! Let's hope the one week later doesn't turn into another week and another week.

(BTW...just a friendly tip...you shouldn't post 3rd party emails on the Forum. Better to just paraphrase what they said.)

interesting. although on marasst it said 2.4kg with 14.1" WXGA TFT and 6cell battery. it doesn't seem like it sticks out too much on that picture. its similar specc'd as the a8jm and i hear that gets 3 hours with the 6 cell, that's enough for me so i'd rather have the battery not stick out the back like that.

Anadem says it has the NVIDIA G73M, which is the 7600, while Marasst says 7600 as well. However I recalled Donald or someone else saying it could be the 7400.

Thanks for the info paladin. So do you guys actually have the pre-production models in hand right now, or are u getting them soon? If you have them now, could you share any inital impressions about the build quality - like is it all plastic or not, as its kind of hard to tell from the current pictures out there.
