Nope, not the same company...nor actually exactly "down the street". They are in Southern Nevada - Las Vegas...we are in Northern Nevada close to Carson City.

So, they are closer to "Down the State" from us, but with the same attitude about providing the best in customer service.

We welcome your order...thank you. :)

I cannot predict a shipping date until your order is placed and paid for, but it shouldn't be much longer than about a week after receipt of your good funds.

The main difference is that PowerPro comes standard with a 3 year warranty.

If by normal you mean the Crown brand, the differences are simply in the warranty packages offered and minor pricing differences.

It looks like a wonderful system! Now my main concerns are battery life and heat. I'd assume battery life will compare more or less to HEL80, that is, about 4 hours with half brightness and WLAN/BT off... but I hope to see some benches sooner or later, because I might just order this unit at the end of summer. :)

is there anyway to change the color of the cover aside from painting? kinda like the Dell snap-on things?

why couldn't compal just make it freaking silver or black on top!!!!

    aggh...and included firewire!

minor gripes i guess...as i continue my quest to decide between mainly HEL80 and HGL30

It's a tough choice, I agree... the HGL30 will have better video performance because its Go7600 is higher clocked, but the downside is the WXGA display. The HEL80 has a great WSXGA+ screeen for gaming. It can handle a lot of games at that resolution.
I also like the design and look of the HEL better. I'm not sure if the HGL30 runs as cool as the HEL80, but if it does, that makes the choice that much harder.

Ok, my second attempt at the question.

Since the GPU is totally passive and not even attached to a shared fan like the S96J or M560A, does it have any heat trobules?

i don't believe the gpu is passively cooled since that seems to be what you're implying...i think what paladin meant to say is that there is one fan cooling both the cpu and the gpu..it's usually the hd that is passively cooled

Snakes on a Plane, what jterp7 said is totally accurate.

Most of the thermal solution designs on the Pentium M laptops use a single fan, but both the GPU and CPU have heat sinks and are then connected to the fan with the copper piping and fin system.

Take a look at the 2nd from the bottom picture of the PowerPro A 2:24 (ASUS 96J) and you will see how it works...and it works quite well.

OK, but in the HEL80 review it looks like there is only a cpu heatpipe assembly

That is not true. Look carefully at the 2nd from the bottom picture of the HEL80

If you look carefully in the bottom right corner of the compartment that is open on the left you will see the heatpipe going to the GPU. The GPU is a sister board under the bar that separates the left hand compartment from the middle compartment (where the memory is).

This system is really quite good. There are two exhaust vents on this model...one out the back and one out the left side. Each heatpipe ends at a copper fin setup and the fan blows over both of them. The GPU exhaust goes out the back, and the CPU goes out the left hand vent.

the gpu is under the plastic so you cant see it, but you can see the copper pipe going to it

the main advantages of the compals compared to their respective asus counterparts are the extra exhaust ports (2 vs 1) and therefore better cooling..it really is unfortunate that the hgl30 wasn't around when i was looking at the w3j..might have picked that up instead just for the 9cell battery and the fact that it runs cooler

    Donald,

I have two quick questions for you. :)

    A) Do you confirm that the LCD outer lid is indeed teal? It'd be fine if it were grey, silver, or black --but I do quite love that shade. It's so... marine. [EDIT: found my answer to this one in another thread; cool!]

    B) When I do purchase the HGL30, I intend to pay via wire transfer. The laptop would be shipped to my college in Iowa, where I live, but my parents (God bless them) decided to pay for most of it, so the funds would come from an Italian bank. Would that be a problem for Power Notebooks, beside the slightly longer wait till funds clear?

    Thanks in advance. :)

    1. Yes, it is indeed teal!
    2. For International wires the incoming bank charges us a $25 fee, so that is the only extra expense...but be sure to CALL US for Special Promotions on PowerPro and Crown Models

And yes, God Bless your grandparents...may He keep them in good health both in body and Spirit :)

I had a question about the HGL 30. On top of the lid near the front there appears to be some sort of speaker, perhaps a mic? Can anyone confirm what it is?

How much dedicated video memory is there, not including Turbocache? Just curious because I couldn't find that statistic broken down anywhere.

Quick question, what is the lid made of? On my current laptop, an HP zt3000 (made by Compal), the lid is some sort of metal and very strong. I'm hoping that this lid is metal as well or at least strong plastic.
