Thanks. I dl'ed the HP Flash Disk utility last night but was unable to install it in Vista. I will redownload the utility and prepare the usb drive on an XP machine. I have had several different boot screens. Uncorrectable hardware error, Page Fault in Non paged area and one that doesn't give any reason.

Hrmm, I believe they changed the program or something because it's asking me for an .img file for my DOS boot image and all I have is a folder.

I've flashed my HGL30 with the 116A bios. Everything seems fine. I wish Compal would have included a changelog so we would know what is supposed to be fixed/improved. I always update to the latest bios in hopes that Compal will implement a thermal policy where the fan spins at a constant low rpm and then increases as necessary based on the cpu temp instead of the annoying on off cycle that they currently implement.

I have 115A and the fan is constantly on at low speeds until the cpu heats up.

Anyone run any benchmarks ? I really hate it when they release stuff without any notes...

Also did they officially stop making updated drivers for this notebook, there hasn't been any updates in a while, and vista compatibility isnt perfect yet..

I'm using it now, I haven't observed any changes from the previous one. Maybe it's something like a microcode update from Intel or some such?

It works fine with Windows. I think it may have broken the ACPI under Linux, though. I'm going to try rolling back to the 115A and see if that is indeed the case.

I know this thread is pretty old, but in case anyone else happens upon it as I did I wanted to share my experience. I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 and found that my CPU/GPU fan wasn't running, so if I really taxed the processor my computer would eventually shut down (from overheating, I think). So I figured I'd try upgrading my BIOS to 116A--this got the fan working nicely, but suspend and hibernate didn't work anymore. Ubuntu would go into suspend or hibernate fine it seemed, but when I tried resuming it would act like it was working, but eventually just hang on a black screen.

I think my BIOS version before upgrading was 105 or something like that, so I decided to try some versions in between. I tried 115A with the same results as 116A, but then tried 111, and now both the fan and suspend/hibernate work, so that seems to be the magic number, at least for me.

By the way, I used a flashing boot CD from bootdisk.com to do the BIOS flashes.

Yup, I'm on 111 aswell. Both Fan (off, on and low rpm) and suspend work in Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy.
