I have had my compal hel80 for just over 2 years (shame since my warranty is 2 years and it's like 1.5 weeks over).
Anyways, when i power my laptop on, the fan starts as normal, but the screen never shows anything, never even turns on and it fails to give any power to any peripherals like a mouse or camera or anything, then the fan turns off after about 10 seconds. The laptop is plugged into the wall and has full battery. It was working fine perfectly 30 minutes previously and I haven't done any recent updates or changes to the system.
The only possible thing I can think that happened is I was transporting it in my laptop backpack just before the issue occurred and maybe something was damaged in transit. But im pretty sure everything was functioning properly when I set my laptop up in my home once again, although I cannot guarantee this since I wasn't paying that much attention.
As always, any help is very much appreciated.

Do u hear any beeps when u press the power button?

Try this...plug out the power cable from the laptop, take out the battery and hold down the power button for 35~ secs. Put back in the battery and try again.

Are you sure that no peripherals are getting power? Did you have the OS setup so that you had to log in each time it booted? If so, that might explain why none of the peripherals seem to be active.

If the fan keeps running (normally) after you power it up, and you're not getting any beeps out of it, then it sounds like you've either lost the backlight for the LCD, or the inverter, or the cable from the motherboard to the LCD has become loose or is damaged.

Tried the batter 35sec thing, no luck. Also no beeps on startup.

I do have to log in on each start up , but when the problem first occured, I was logged in and when I returned to my laptop and saw the screen black there were no peripherals functioning, but my mouse was plugged in. The screen is set to never turn off if it is plugged into power so neither of those should have happened.

The reason im pretty sure it isn't an LCD problem is because I have to log into my bios at every startup and if I don't it just sits there; and at that page if you hit the power button, since the bios hasn't booted yet, it just shuts down no problem without having to hard shutdown, which is what I have to do to turn it off now.

Did some searching and a friend of mine discovered i had just fried the RAM.
Could be worse I guess. Thanks for the help.
