The IFL90 doesn't. Go to Control panel, System, Advanced system settings, at the bottom it should tell you if it is equipped or not. However Windows has some DEP capability.

i were already there, but says that ifl90 dows not support hardware dep, but has software dep, but for hyper-v i need hardware dep... i were reading and found that most of the times hardware dep is disabled by default in bios, (and in ifl's bios there is no option to activate... :S) that's why i ask if somebody knows a way of activate, or if ifl realy does have hardare dep (whitch is stranges as almost all of the recent laptops have it)...
an idea can't we make a pettition to compal to them make a bios with more options? because have that or nothing is the same thing (as for the user interaction of course) -
To have more options in the BIOS is more dangerous and asking for problems. However having said that it is a good idea so you can have a better control of your machine assuming you know what you are doing. There is another way, is using a BIOS editor and doing the changes by yourself, again, you must be knowledgeable or you will end up with a laptop doesn't work.
With regards asking Compal, it is an excellent idea, you must find the process to do so, perhaps through the resellers, I don't know. -
Just in case you have not yet resolved your DEP questions, here's a reference to a tiny freeware utility that will show you exactly what DEP capabilities your processor has.
It's called SecurAble.
Find it at www.grc.com/securable.htm
The little program itself will display your current status. And the information page has some great explanations about the usefulness and relevance of hardware DEP now and in the future.
The utility was written by Steve Gibson of Gibson Research Corp. He's the guy who wrote SpinRite (a superb data recovery and hard-drive maintenance utility with which many of you will be familiar). He qualifies as a true security expert. He co-hosts an excellent weekly podcast called "Security Now", which is where I learned about this utility. (Info and archive of past programs on his website.)
I have an HEL80 . In my case the utility reports that hardware DEP is available, but locked out (probably by the BIOS). I'd like to enable it, but don't know of a way to do that without some BIOS help from Compal.
If you find a way to unlock it in the BIOS or if you have some success with help from Compal, please come back and post your findings. Thanks.
