Justin, are you going to be selling the fl90 as a barebones system as well? And if so, when do you expect that option to be available?

Justin, quick question, if I decided not to get bluetooth now, would I be able to install that at a later date, or is that strictly internal? Thanks.

You should be able to upgrade later. It should not be a very difficult installation either.

If you think you want it, however, I'd actually suggest you just pony up the extra $50 or so for the adapter and get it up-front to save hassles down the line.

Sorry guys, no info on the IFT00 :(

The wireless Internet isn't stock. You can add a 9 Cell to the 256MB 8600 model if would like to.

Justin, have you got an example of the IFL90 yet? I know someone else posted that they felt it was a huge improvement over the HEL80. I was wondering what you felt about the new model.

Don't know if that was a crack on the HEL80 or praise for the IFL90

I think there is a price error or something when you click on the sale/specs page. It lists the Elite model w/ WSXGA+ 512MB for $1156

when you say "You can add a 9 Cell to the 256MB 8600 model if would like to," does that mean that you can replace the 6 Cell that already comes with it if you pay the extra money? Or is the only way to get a 9 Cell (if you want the 256MB) is to pay for a spare 9 Cell, which would mean ending up with both batteries?

I haven't personally seen the IFL90 yet. If you go into either of the configurators you can see the upgrade price for adding the batteries. If you purchased the WXGA model and wanted a 9 cell it would in addition to the 6 Cell that comes stock. (So you would get 2 batteries)

Thanks for pointing out the error paddlefoot  , the Elite package starts with the WXGA that can be upgraded to the WSXGA. It is now corrected :)

You can purchase a TV Tuner later on if you would like and if are comfortable with installing yourself or taking it in somewhere

You know that place on the front where a brand should go had it been bought by a company, do we get anything on that? And if we don't, is there anything (even on ebay) where I can add something there so it doesn't look like I bought it in an alley?

It's not that I like logos or being able to show what kind of laptop I have. It's that there's a hole there. It's not a clean look, it's a hole.

BUT, good to know that we get a logo there, thx.

Justin, do you or anyone you work with have solid insight as to comparing the IFL-90 and the Asus G1s? I realize it's asking a lot but could you give a pro/con comparison of the two notebooks (to the best of your knowledge).

There is a fair number of posts out there about which of these 2 models is best, but having read them I still am no better off on making a decision. I want a road/work horse for various memory intensive programs (like Finale and Photoshop) that can double as a powerful gaming machine. Durability, Longevity, and Portability are also all very important to me. Appearance though a big bonus is not pivotal (i.e. I know the Asus looks better, and if the Compal/Asus are similar enough then the appearance will matter, if the performance is different enough then it won't). Can you (or anyone else) help me end this debate with myself once and for all?

Finally if the Compal turns out to be a better idea, will it be worthwhile (for my needs listed above) to wait out for the ITF-00, or would the larger screen benefit me more?

    Thanks!

Compal took the photo of the notebook, when Powernotebooks or Xotic gets it, they put their logo on it. If you take a look at the HEL 80 you can see that was the same way.

papaslides, To the best of my knowledge the main difference between the G1s and IFL90 are

    - Design (Compal has a more conservative look where the G1s has a aggressive design.)
    - Warranty (Compal comes with a 3 Year Warranty where the G1s comes with a 2 Year Warranty)
    - Features (Compal has a couple extra features such as Robson, Internal TV Tuner capability, Fingerprint Reader and will come with a larger battery 9 Cell vs. 8 Cell (WSXGA). The Compal will come with a 2.0MP Camera where the G1s will have a 1.3MP.)
    - Video (From what we know now the G1 will have the 8600GT and the GT has not been confirmed with the Compal)
    - Pricing (The Compal will end up costing almost two hundred dollars cheaper then the G1s with a similar configuration and more features/better warranty. If the appearance of the machine is a important consideration, maybe go with LCD or Full Paint Job with the savings on the Compal :))
    - Customizations (You will have more control over customization on the Compal compared to the G1s. The G1s comes with a certain configuration from Asus that doesnt allow much flexibility below that configuration)
    - Build Quality (Both of these notebooks have a good build quality)

I hope the above helps in your decision. :D

The IFT00 is still not confirmed that it is coming to the US. If you do allot of work in Photoshop I would think you would want at least a 15.4".

In Europe the Compal will come with the 8600M GT ( The Netherlands and Norway). Then why wouldn't it come with that card in the USA?

Also on a side note question for everybody. Whats the real difference between those two operating systems?

    @Havock...

Recently (like 4 or 5 days ago) chatted online thru xoticpc.com 's website, I'm pretty sure it was Justin that answered as well, he said they don't offer 64-bit vista at all, they've seen too many problems. Powernotebooks.com does offer 64-bit on the same models, so apparently they don't see it as a problem. Not sure if they (pnb) are still installing the 64-bit version, and providing re-install media for both 64- and 32- bit versions on the new IFL90 model (PowerPro 10:15), but if they are, that's what I am planning to do...

Ok, so here's a machine that can run a 64 bits OS but the vendors won't sell a 64 bits OS for it because there are too many problems. Am I the only one finding that worrysome?

I realize the problem may be with Vista 64bits and not the machine but still. Anyone tried to run a 64 bit version of Linux on those babies?

We will test Windows 64-Bit as soon as the new Compals arrive. At this point we assume it will work ok. As many of you know Win 64 has issues of compatibility with many other software applications and drivers. The 32/64-Bit driver was a Sager deal only.

For any International questions please feel free to email me at the address below :)

Anyone got some benchmarks between the GS and GT to go by?

Even better would be actual game or 3d app benchmarks between the G1 and the IFL90 but I'm pretty sure those don't exist yet.

it is probably a preliminary report or that the IL will come with a choice btw the gs and gt cards. if the il was suppose to compete with the G1S then it would make sense to have a similar card. of course posters could be wrong in speculatng and compal actually had no intention of competing with the G1s.

if it is a GS, the IL will lose its price advantage as it will now be competing with asus' F series which are comparable

People are taking chances because it's a good probability that it will be a GT. Because of the 512mb is what I'm guessing.

And even if it's a GS, you're still getting a pretty good price.

We are just going to have to keep waiting, but if it truly is the GS, although it is still a great deal, it definately takes this laptop off of the godlike/affordable pedastol we have been putting it on for so long. This would be really dissapointing, but I think with the 512mb upgrade option that will be the GT and the 256 will be the GS, though that's a cross between know-nothing "out of my ass" guess and wishful thinking.

Though the question then becomes, for those of us looking for a great gaming machine for under 2K, is this still the best choice (if it ships with the GS card instead of the GT). I looked at the G1s, but it is just a little bit out of my price range.
