use the tool Active killdisk to create an bootable USB stick.
Then download the latest BIOS (Read before starting).
Extract the file to the USB stick and reboot machine.
Make sure to put the USB stick in a USB port on the right side then when the notebook starts press F12 and select the usb stick.
The rest is easy just search the stick open the folder and type in the name of the exe file.
If F12 isn't working then go in to the BIOS and select the option for the bootable menu to be displayed during boot.
    Goodluck.

Active killdisk is the easy way of making a USB stick bootable.

Well when i pressed the F key to use the CD fro Flashing bios someone made here (Believe its the compal 1.13 bios thread) IT would just sit there and look at my ethernet port and never even look at the CD even though i picked that from the boot menu.

imachine's caution is wise...if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Make sure the changelog shows something that you need has been corrected...otherwise leave it alone.

Do not post Beta BIOS or files that require a password(they are there for a reason).

BIOS updates should be used as a last resort or when a professional tech support agent tells you to use it since BIOS update can cause problems.

    Thx

AHCI is a hardware mechanism that allows software to utilize special features of Serial ATA hard disks such as hot swapping devices and native command queuing. It is natively supported by Windows Vista, but not Windows XP. Some computers are now coming with it enabled in the BIOS by default, and if someone tries to install Windows XP on that computer it will not find the hard disk until AHCI is disabled. Also, if XP is already installed and AHCI gets enabled it will cause XP to crash and reboot continously until the feature is disabled.

As for the SLP2 and NRBT conflict. SLP2 is System Locked Preinstallation 2.0, which is used by computer manufacturers to pre-activate Windows for a particular machine so that the activation process isn't necessary during mass installations and if the customer does a clean install on the same computer with the same motherboard they won't be prompted to activate. As for NRBT, I couldn't find out the answer to that for sure, but my guess would be it stands for No Reboot and probably also relates to OEM installation.

If you're running Vista and never had a hard drive issue, and you're running XP successfully at all, the AHCI fix probably doesn't relate to you. If you haven't had problems with Windows Activation, either, then my personal opinion is that you probably don't need to bother with the BIOS update.

As Paladin said, if it isn't broke, don't fix it. Which is doubly true in the case of a BIOS update because if you don't know what you're doing you could cause more trouble than you started with if done incorrectly.

Hi JoeNewberry, I don't know if your picture is related to but for whatever is worth, today a chess genius died, Boby Fisher. I love chess myself, and the only game I play with my compal, is Chessmaster and I love it. If you have any suggestion how to speed up my compal to play chess I would love to hear it.

thanks for the info Joe. I am running bios 1.12 with vista home premium 64-bit. As far as I can tell everything is running fine and when I look at the welcome page it says windows is authenticated and even displays some sort of serial number or maybe a product key. So I guess in the end, i don't need to bother with it. again thank you for researching that for me.
