These are questions for the resellers who read this forum. I realize that how Sager handles warranties may be better answered by someone at Sager but anyway, I want to see what answers I can get here.

    1. The Sager warranty says 3 years labor and 1 year parts. I looked and can't find any of the warranties on their web site that spells out what this means. I see warranties for 1, 2 or 3 years on parts AND labor but nothing about 3 years labor and 1 year parts.

    2. How prevalent is the need to ship the entire laptop back for service? I've only owned Dell laptops and in 9 years never had to ship them my laptop for service. The only shipping that occurred between Dell and my house were for replacement parts. Basically, attempts were made over the phone to narrow down where the problem was so that only parts were exchanged rather then send the entire laptop back and forth. What should I expect with the warranties on the IFL90 or NP2090?

    3. Are the support technicians servicing Compals able to work with a customer who has Ubuntu as his primary OS? I'm not asking about whether the technicians can help me configure Ubuntu. Nor am I expecting them to teach me how to diagnose problems in Ubuntu. However, having to install Windows just to diagnose a hardware problem is definitely a minus as far as I'm concerned. (For the record, my experience with Dell regarding this has been mixed: the techs who really knew their stuff did not care which OS I used to answer their questions during a support call; those who only knew how to read a script could not cope because their script was made for Windows.)

    That's it. Thanks!

    1. There is no Sager 3 year labor and 1 year parts warranty. That is something that Xoticpc offers, but they provide the 2nd 2 years of the labor part of the warranty.

    2. You can expect the same thing. If it can be diagnosed on the phone that any replaceable component has failed that component will be shipped to you and you install it and ship the defective one back.

    3. It depends on who is providing the telephone support. Since Compal is not a brand, nor are they your dealer, you have to ask your dealer this question and rely on the credibility of their answer. The bottom line is if it is really a hardware issue it can usually be diagnosed regardless of your OS.

First, thank you for the answers.

Oops... there go my powers of inference... Thanks for the clarification.

Thanks. That's what I want to hear.

    Right.
