If you're gaming with the 8600GT 512MB & T7300, would you use a cooling pad, fan control utility or just let the machine do whatever it wants?
-
I think this question is best asked 2 weeks from now. I am on a preorder with those stats. I will test out Medieval War II...
-
I'm not expecting it to overheat, but I probably will get a cooling pad, just to take some stress out.
-
ill most likely be getting a cooling pad also...doesnt hurt to have one if your just chillin in your dorm

Can anyone give some suggestions on portable coolers or something that is good or attachable to the ifl90. Can I use the cooler on my lap as well or is that a bad idea?
Will this work? http://www.buy.com/retail/Product.asp?sku=10353046&adid=17662
Or should I go for the Zalman one...?
Also, what is the best tool for monitoring temps and controlling the fan? I loved dell's i8kfangui, but I'm sure it won't work here -
Not sure about monitering temps and fans, but try speedfan for fans and cpu and hard drive temps. ATI tool or rivatuner for video card temps... -
Geico, that thread doesn't specify anything about 15" notebooks and whether or not those pads are good for them. I also remember reading a thread where a notepad cooler did not help any because of the fan placements on the laptop, so anyone have more specific information to the ifl90? Are there also coolers that can be attached to the notebook or is using glue and duct tape the only way?

There is really no need for a cooler on the IFL90.
Coolers can be helpful with the 17" models using hotter video cards and desktop processors. Otherwise the laptop's own cooling system usually does the job quite well for most users. -

We'll just have to be careful when doing these things.
I'm hoping someone really experienced in OC'ing finds a good range of OC values that we can do safely without an external cooler. That'd be ideal. -
or just to be safe and not burn your lap, get a $25 dollar cooler. the 17inch notebooks are very large, and i dont think they'd fit nicely. and as to the glue question:
you dont glue a coolpad, you just set your laptop on top of it. they have rubber on em so your laptop doesnt slide/get scratched. -
Why does this thread get revived even though there are no new replies?

Because of the poll. People vote but don't post.

I have a quick question. The Zalman NC1000 seems to be smaller than the IFL90. Has anyone used this with the laptop? Does it fit on there?
-
I measured the pixel width of the IFL90 (the manual picture of the bottom of the laptop): about 1550 pixels. The real width of the laptop is 35.5 centimeters, that makes 1550/35.5= 44 pixels/cm. The distance between the two outer sides of the rubber feet of the laptop is about 1385 pixels. That is 1385/44= 31.7 centimeters or 12.5 inches. The Zalman Cooler is 31.7 centimeters wide or 13 inches. So that should fit easily. The depth of the cooler (30.8 cm or 12.1") is bigger than the depth of the laptop (25.7 cm or 11.1"), so that should fit easily as well.
These calculations are not extremely accurate but they do provide enough information to say the IFL90 will definitely fit on the Zalman Notebook Cooler. -

it doesn't hurt to have a cooler but either way it does help something whether it may be taking some stress of the fans or cooling down the laptop. I ordered the lapcool 2. It got some good reviews on newegg haha.
