    Hi,

I've recently come across a Compal JAW91 - has anyone tried it/tested it/has anything to say about it?

    Some pictures and notes here:

    http://www.bizcom-lar.com/JAW91.html

They supposedly use AMD cpus, not much on the graphics - I guess it's integrated. Not heard of a JAW90 or so - i.e. a non-integrated amd based compal book.

Stay tuned for more (I guess) compal fans! :)

The new Compal Penryn models will be in the US by the end of this month or early February. No change from the IFL90/91 except Penryn support.

Do you ever read before posting anything? imachine asked about JAW91 that has nothing to do with Intel, sometime I beginning to think you are here only to spam and talk people into buying laptops from PN, though most time not through a direct way.

I better post some pictures about that nonsense with Intel Draft N mini pci-x card (4965AGN) and Intel 945PM (EL80) compatibility you were seriously pushing through not too long ago.

Sorry if I hurt your fillings, but I can't stand any advertising activity in the public forum.

    Powernotebooks rocks, kid.

What I got from paladin is that it will not be replacing the IFL90 we all lovee, and that all that's going to change is Penryn support.

    @Paladin

Will our IFL90's be upgradeable processor wise?

erh, well it clearly won't be replacing it, since it's a readily available machine (I can get my hands on it as we speak, next day if I so wish) and it is amd based as well.

so uh, wrong approach. I too sort of got off the topic with Paladin's answer, tho he's usually very helpful and sorts things out in a neat fashion.

and don't hate for commercial offering, if any. that's how some people make a living - so d'oh if you wan't to promote your products. if they're good - why the hell not. (tho the way that wireless N wifi thread went was kind of unnecessary, if I remember correctly ;))

offtopic away, still would be nice to get some infos regarding the JAW model, what it is, etc. It's certainly not a next generation box next to the FL90 - but it's an interesting concept all the same.

    cheers!

Yes, I apologize for misreading your specific question.

I was referring to the JFL92 which is replacing the IFL90. The JFL92 will have Penryn support, but no other significant changes. (just as the 14.1" Compal JFT02 will be replacing the IFT00). Of course none of these is AMD based.

And Dirt is correct in that it isn't specifically the Intel 945 chipset that prevents the HEL80 from utilizing the "n" protocol of the Intel 4965 wireless card, it is that the HEL80 does not have the 3 leads necessary to support the "n" speed and range, or MIMO. The thing is that laptops based on the Intel 945 chipset were designed before the Intel 4965 "n" cards so it is almost impossible to find any that do have the 3 leads built in by the manufacturer. You can use an Intel 4965 in any laptop with the Intel 945 chipset, but without the 3rd lead you will only get "g" performance, and no MIMO.

I hope this helps to clarify, and please accept my apology for high jacking this thread.

Mippoose, according to Compal neither the IFL90 nor the IFT00 is certified for the Penryn processor, so yours would not be upgradeable. I know that someone has posted that they are successfully using the T9300 with BIOS 114, but Compal says there are other motherboard changes in the new JFL92 that are needed for Penryn support. They say that while the IFL90 may be running a T9300, it is not going to be stable enough for them to warrant any IFL90 using the Penryn processor.

Some other person is posting info the IFL will support the Intel Penryn CPU.
He is informing people about some new BIOS version 1.14.
Please see link for further details and lets hope he is speaking the truth.

I am still waiting for compal to reply on me support email.
Also requested more details about new and upcumming software regarding the Fingerprint software that's causing a memory leak in Vista 32/64Bits.

Ok but this is sooooooo offtopic now - this thread has nothing to do with your bloody intel based compals! please stay on topic or post in the penryn support thread.
