I have a JHL90 that was being used by my son. It went to sleep then never woke up. When the power button is pushed, I can hear the fan going and the led's for battery and power are lit but won't go any further. About 15 seconds later, the fan stops but the led's are still lit. Nothing on the screen. I've tried to boot from usb but nothing happens. I don't know if the boot files aren't working or the graphics card is gone. Can anyone help?

99% sure its the GPU, if the boot files where the problem, you still would see POST/Splash screen.

You may wanna read my thread here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/com...our-broken-8600m-gt-graphics-card-i-fl90.html

This is for the FL90, the predecessor of yours. I think the JHL90 has a 9600M GT, also replaceable, but not sure if it worth the trouble.

If you have further questions, go ahead asking.

    Cheers

Thanks Dr. Colossos. I read your thread about replacing graphics card WOW! That's a bit passed my technical expertise. Maybe I'll try anyways. What would be a good replacement card? ATI HD 4570? Will it work out of the box?

Which card would be the best to replace with and can I upgrade the card since I'll be replacing?

    Hi,

you would need to read through this forum, if ATI cards work for the JHL90, I do not know for sure. I know there were other people with the JHL90 that had the same problem. Use the forum search.

    Which card to get:
ATI 3400/3450/3470 - least power, only very simple gaming, totally okay for office, web, eMail, etc.
ATI 3650 - about the same as the 8600M GT, good for older 3D games (get the 512MB DDR2 version for best compat
ATI 4570 - a bit better than the 3650, also more expensive
ATI 4650 - a real upgrade, but might give you heat issues, as it has far more power

Regarding replacing the card, and digging deap into your laptop: I never did that before my card went bad. Just get the service guide (hint: try google with "JHL90 service guide") - I am not allowed to link it here - and you are good to go. Be cautios, but if you fail, nothing lost, right, it is broken as it is.

    Good luck
