So just to summarize, there is no clear difference in build quality between the 2096 and the 1651? I would normally wait for reviews, but I'm going to need my laptop soon and I need to order...like today...

My choice is basically down to one of these two and I honestly don't know which way to go at this point.

Have you reviewed post #10 in this thread?

In addition to the list of differences you can add that that PowerPro P 15:3 (MSI 1651) will support the Intel 5300 WiFi card with 3 antenna leads, as opposed to the PowerPro P 12:15 (Compal JHL90) that supports the Intel 5100 WiFi card with 2 antenna leads which will run at a lower speed (up to 300 MB/s as opposed to up to 450MB/s on the 5300) and has less range.

I read post #10. The only thing I'm not clear about is build quality. I know Sager is good, I don't know as much about MSI. I realize that the vast majority of laptops seem to be made on the same street in Taiwan, but still, I'm nervous...

The MSI is better in many small ways (better wifi as you said, GDDR3, firewire, eSATA, and everything else in your post).

Anyways, I need to make a decision today, and I'm still divided on whether all those small things are worth the extra money (about $150).

The build quality is virtually indistinguishable between the two.

The price difference is $120 if you don't get the Bluetooth with the PowerPro P 12:15, and only $80 if you do want Bluetooth.

About when would a review of the Force 3551 be available? 1 week? 2 weeks?

Hi, I'm a newbie, but I've lurked in here for quite awhile.

The nature of my question goes to paladin44.

I've been looking seriously at both laptops at powernotebooks.com

I'm wondering about battery life comparison of the MSI 1651 and the Sager 2096 if both had 9 cell batteries...it is a major selling point with me due to my job and having a lot of time on my hands, but having no accessible power outlets in the vicinity.

    ^--^
You should get about the same battery life from the 9 cell batteries for either model...3.5 to 4 hours, although many people have reported over 4 hours.

Battery Life run time is very dependent on your hardware configuration, applications, and OS power settings. To maximize your battery life your screen brightness should be turned down as low as you can make it while still being able to read it comfortably, any unnecessary programs running in the background should be exited, your wireless and Bluetooth cards should be off if you are not using them, and your Power Management setting should be set for maximum battery life.

Can you run them side to side with the same things on/off and same battery to test it out? Rob seems to report the battery life a bit shorter (3 hours when not doing something intensive). He does have bluetooth and wifi on, so it isn't a fair measure. However, despite him having it on, it seems the MSI has a shorter life :(
