The USB button is to have power on the USB port, while the laptop is off, e.g. to charge a phone via USB, with the laptop being off.

The fact that you cannot connect a mouse to that USB port is weird. Maybe it is broken. Does the mouse work on another port / laptop?

    Good luck

I do not know the HL-90 or JHL, only the FL90, but they are pretty much the same.

You should not need drivers for the USB port.

Which operating system are you using, Windows 7, Vista, XP, 8?

Try an USB stick on that port. Also, if you have a smartphone, try to connect that with the laptop of, and see if it charges when you press the USB button.

You also could get an USB hub to get more USB connectors from one USB port (something like that -> http://s.gravis.de/p/z1/networx-usb-30-4-port-hub-silber_z1.jpg)
