I have the VBI version of the Compal EL80 which has version 114B from Intel's
website on it. I would like to update to something newer like the versions found on Compal's website.

    Can this be done?

It is OK to install the Compal BIOS on the VBI version of the notebook?

The BIOS version Intel provides date back to 1/30/2007.
After reading over some of the readme's on Compal site about the newer version, it could fix some odd issues I see running Linux.

    Thanks!

If I remember right, the differences between the VBI and the standard version were mostly cosmetic, so it should be ok. But I'd wait for someone like paladin44 or Justin to tell you for sure ;)

VBI is mostly about the original features of your laptop (the non-VBI version always have more features, but are more expensive) and the warranty procedure.

You should have no problem with the BIOS because the motherboards are the same.
