    Hey there.

I'm about to send in my 6130HS-20 to have the screen replaced and upgrade the RAM to the max. When it comes back I'm going to get the external fan/pad to ensure it doesn't overheat anymore.

What are other things I can do to this thing to ensure longer-life and less shut-downs? I read cryptic things on this site about upgrading the bios, doing something else about the northbridge, changing the oil/grease...?

What have you done to your unit to make it happier? I'm looking for complete step-by-step instructions (as are others I'm sure).

    1. Don't pay them to install the ram, do it yourself
    2. Don't mess with the bios
    3. Nothing to do with the northbridge, but you can change the thermal grease used on the cpu to artic silver, and this can help with the heat issues.
    4. You can use a laptop cooler, but i personally haven't needed one, my unit can take extreme temperatures and keep on running. And i mean HOT temperatures. But i guess it comes down to how hot the processor is to shut down the laptop

When you get the unit back, check to make sure they tightend all of the screws. They left 1/2 of mine loose then the case cracked.

I also added a pad on top of the screen, between the catches to prevent the screen from warping. Thinking when you close the lid while its HOT may have caused the problem. You have a tendency to squeeze the LID (lcd) against the base when you carry it. I no longer close the lid through the center, I grab above the hindges now. Trying to prevent flexing the lcd screen. I noticed on the newer models they stiffened the lid.
