I have just had a dustbunny hunt in a 6214W. The fan and grill is now shining!![]()
Though I noticed something that worries me.
I know the coolingpasta layer is seposed to be very thin. But is it seposed to be in such small amount that it equals the same size as a penny in diameter (small coin). Here is a picture for you to look at:

I am sure it is the GPU that is to the right side of the fan since the other one is marked Intel. Is it possible that the person who assembled the computer was just as cheap with the coolingpaste on the CPU?

Yes, the size of the transfer area is fine. Thats how most notebooks with dedicated graphics cards would look. There are limited tot he size of the core on the card itself. If you are worried about temperatures, you can install some Arctic Silver thermal interface yourself. Normally, manufacturers would use cheaper material simply to save on cost.

Yes I have just made an order for 1gb 667mhz RAM. I added Arctic Silver thermal paste to the order. Though I'm not sure I will try to anything with the CPU since I have not been under those heatpipes yet. I'll just change the paste on the GPU as it's an easy fix.

Was it an easy operation, opening the case? Would like to know it for possible problems in future..

Yes the operation is quite easy.
Disconnect all power sources including battery. Open up the lid where the RAM is and remove the screw with a keyboard-mark pointing at it. Remove the other two screwes under the notebook with the same keyboard-marks pointing at them.
When removing the keyboard you HAVE to push it upwards! You can't pull it towards you because the clips are too long at the LCD side of the keyboard. I broke a key attempting to do thatYou don't have to disconnect the keybord from the motherboard. But I did that since it was in my way. It's a bit tricky to reconnect but I'm sure it won't be a problem for you.
When removing the housing on the fan there are four tiny screws on top of the copper-housing. You allso have to remove the screw wich is on the split wich keeps the heatpipe attached to the GPU.
And there you go. Except adding new thermal paste the assembly is reverse of removal. -
That looks just like normal for a 6214/6314. If you put on new paste (witch you shuld, allways change paste when removing the cooler) be sure you don't put on to much. The paste shud just fill up the small roughness between the core and the cooler, if you use to much it just blocks the heat from reaching the cooler.
litte different way you use to get the cooler of the GPU by the way. Usualy we don't dissassemble the pipe from the fan to change the paste, We thake of the whole fan instead. Much easyer because you don't have to mess witch the tiny screews.
Note that your warranty will be removed if you do this type of things and that it's nothing we encourage!!!!!!
